Excellent looking cakes when using the silverspoon products

Now my daughter has got to the age where she wants to do more and more things with mummy, although colouring and painting is really her thing I deceived to give baking a try. While in my local Sainsbury's store I was looking for things we could decorate cupcakes with. This is when I came about the Silverspoon range. They have a huge range of decorating items to really set off your cupcakes and make them look extra tasty. I picked up this pack of sugar stars for the bargain price of only 99p. There are thousands of these tiny little yellow and purple stars amounting up to 50grams, contained inside this hard plastic container. The lid is plastic and able to turn so you can either have it in sprinkle mode, completely open so they go everywhere or closed. The stars look great on top of icing sugar, and contain no artificial flavours or colours. They are also suitable for vegetarians. There really any flavour to these stars except a nice sweet and sugary taste but nothing to sickly. The colour on the stars is a nice warm yellow and nice pale purple but richer than a lilac. These really look great together and on white icing sugar they look fab. We have also used them on top o a pale pink icing this also looks really good. The stars are small in size but great for small hands. The yellow stars measure around 5 mm in length and the purple around 3 mm and they look great either clumped together or nicely laid out on top of a cake. Not only can you used these stars on cakes they also taste great on top of a bowl of lovely rich and creamy ice cream. It does state on the edge of the container that they may fade when left in sunlight, so if you don't want to risk a colour change with these stars them I would recommended keeping them in a dark dry place. My daughter really enjoyed decorating the cup cakes and enjoys sprinkling these stars everywhere! Overall I would recommend giving these a try next time you are planning on making some lovely tasty cakes.

        Wicked Looking Little Stars!

I brought some of these Sugar Stars because I liked the look of them in Sainsburys, I've made so many cakes and different things with my little sisters that I had to stock up on flour and other stuff today so I got some new decorations to try. These are made by Silver Spoon and cost about 90p. They are tiny sugar stars, they're big enough that you can pick them up one at a time and put them on your cakes if you're careful but they do look best when there are a few together because that makes them stand out better than if they're on their own dotted on the cakes. They are quite pale colours, I mean they're bright but pale at the same time if that makes sense. Most of them in this tub are yellow but there are purple and pink ones in there as well, they all taste the same so it doesn't matter what colours go on to the cakes and when you use them to sprinkle into wet icing you can't get them to come out equal anyway! lol They haven't got a taste apart from being sweet, they're not all that sugary and don't change the taste of the cake at all even if you put loads on them. They sort of only stick to wet things so you've got to either use icing or jam so that they will stick good. We used ours today on plain fairy cakes, they stuck wicked to the icing sugar icing but my mum made a good point and said she didn't think they'd work as good on that ready to roll icing you can buy because it's a lot dryer. I see her point as well because halfway through putting the stars on I had to leave the cakes for a few minutes and when I got back the icing had started to set a bit and the stars didn't stick as good. Recommended...... cute little stars to make your cakes look delish!!!
