      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Great to keep kids busy

      ***Reason for buy***
My daughter loves puzzles including those you can find in the doctors surgery or dentist with the labyrinth on the top where they have to move shapes from one side to another. While ago when she started getting into the puzzles, I wanted to get something like that for her and came across this multi-activity cube and instantly liked it.

      ***The cube***
As the name gives it away, this is a multi-activity cube for toddler made out of wood. It is aimed at toddlers of age 18 months+ however we have had this one since my daughter was 12 months old.
Cube's dimensions are 34x34x34cm. It is not the smallest toy in the word and it cannot be stored flat so you would have to find the place for it to store it as it is. Cube is multi-coloured with main colours being yellow, red, blue and green.

Each side of the cube has different activity on it such as a maze, xylophone, abacus and white wipe clean magnetic board. The cube comes with the wooden stick for the xylophone (which we have lost and replaced with small wooden spoons) and some magnets to use on the boards. We also used our own magnets which stayed on the board fine.

What I really liked about this cube was the fact that not only it had labyrinth on the top of the cube, and a little Zoo which is basically a lid of the cube with movable animals. Labyrinth has 3 different coloured metal wires which are bending around to test / develop your child motor skills. The shapes on the wire include cloud, star, sun as well as the usual square or ball. There are also some animals including monkey, parrot or butterfly.

"Zoo" includes animals such as polar bear, seal, elephant, giraffe, lion as well as one tree and Zoo house. All animals again are made out of wood. Animals can be moved around but cannot be detached from the lid. I like those cute animals and the way they have been painted with really vibrant colours, as a matter of fact, whole cube is painted really nicely with vibrant colours.

This cube is designed to help develop essential early learning skills in children such as motor skills, problem solving and for older kids maybe maths using abacus.

Cube is hollow on the inside - ideal storage, top can be easily removed however it can be secured on the top so it's safe for child to play with.

Cube is hollow on the inside which can be ideal for storage. It has removable top which can be easily removed however it is secured on the two sided of the cube so your child will not be able to remove it just by holding on it. I found this really really useful, I use it to store my daughter wooden building brick.
Cleaning of the cube is easy I just use slightly damp cloth to wipe it.

      ***Play time***
I brought this toy for my daughter when she was 12 months old. Even though its recommended from 18 months, my daughter at 12 moths was confidently walking on her own and was able to stand up against it and enjoy playing with Zoo or labyrinth. She loved this cube and the fact that there were few activities, her favourite is labyrinth, xylophone and Zoo animals. She now knows that her wooden building bricks are stored inside so she wants the top of the cube off to access her bricks. I must say this cube kept my daughter entertained loads, she also would take the bricks in and out quite a lot which again keeps her busy. The cube always attracts attention of other kids as well that come to visit. We have had this cube for about 8 months now and my daughter recently stopped playing with it and it is now sitting in the corner of our dining room.

      ***Price ***
This particular cube is available from Toys r us as a steep price of £39.99, currently on sale for £29.99. I think it's a lot of money to be honest, I was lucky and managed to get mine on eBay in mint conditions for £4.99 which of course I was happy with. There are similar activity-cubes available from Amazon or Mothercare, features might differ slightly thought but price seems to be around £40.

      ***Overall***
This is an excellent toy in my opinion and would recommended it however it seemed to be short lived entertainement for my daughter but to be honest i only paid just under £5 so I can not complain. At the end of the day, this is just my daughter and all kids are diffent and maybe other kids will play with it for much longer.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      nice activities

My son was given this activity cube for his first birthday. It was purchased from Toys R Us for £29.99 and is for children from 18 months plus.

      THE CUBE

The cube is made from wood and is fairly large - dimensions are 34 (h) x 34 (w) x 34 (d) cm. It sits ot the floor on it's bottom surface and the remaining surfaces each have a different activity to stimulate the child. The top surface has a metal wire like structure with wooden animals on that can be moved along the wires and along the surface. This can be removed from the top and turned inside the cube and fastened to give a solid cube shape - great for easy storage.

On one side of the cube there is a white board that is wipeable, with this there are four different coloured shaped magnets - red, blue, yellow and green - that stick to the board and can be moved around. Another side has a xylophone on it and there are two wooden mallets contained for playing with this (these can also be stored inside the cube). There is also an abacus with rows of coloured beads. The final activity is a maze, with coloured wooden pegs that are attached to the cube that can be moved along the cut out course.

The edges of the cube are painted in bright colours and the lid is bright green once overturned - it is quite an eye catching toy.

      PLAYTIME

From the instant my son received this, he loved it. His initial intrigue as to what each side did quickly turned to genuine interest and concentration as he tried to figure out how to move pieces etc. This is a great toy for him to sit at and play with - encouraging posture and muscle development. He used to also use this to pull up to standing with as the metal wires on top are good for grabbing on to. Whilst I was pleased that it encouraged him to get to his feet, the cube is quite lightweight so I felt I needed to put something inside it to weight it down in case he did this and pulled it over. It was therefore useful that the top could be removed and something put in there for this purpose. This may be why it is recommended from 18 months but, as long as we watched him with it, I was happy for my son to have it from 12 months of age.

My son's instant favourite section on this was the top wire section where he can pull the wooden animals along. I think he is trying to pull these off so that he can grip them in his hand, but it doesn't seem to frustrate him that he can't. There are lots of different shapes for him to move about and he really enjoys this. He also enjoys the magnets on the white board, pulling them off and placing them back on - he can't seem to understand at the moment why they don't stick like this on the other sides of the cube though!! At the moment, he has had less use from the abacus and xylophone sides. He flicks the beads along their wooden poles occasionally but has shown little interest, the same with the xylophone as he is not yet ready for the wooden mallets. He does enjoy the noise this makes when I play it with him though.

The activity cube holds his attention for quite substantial lengths of time - usually around 15 minutes at a time and then he will keep returning to it throughout the day. At 14 months now, this is longer than any other toy will hold his attention for. He doesn't seem to get bored with it at all and, as he gets older, I would see him getting even more use out of it.

      MUM'S OPINION

The cube is great for encouraging him to develop his manipulative skills and hand-eye co-ordination as there is so much for him to grab hold of and move around. It will also be a useful tool to help my son to learn to count and, later, perform basic maths as the abacus will simplify this for him. It is generally well made although I am disappointed that a little of the paint has come off from the corners of the cube and also some from the magnets. The rest of the cube has stood up well to pulling and pushing etc so it seems pretty durable.

The activities are generally quite stimulating and each quite different to one another. The top section in particular could be quite a nice toy for encouraging imaginative play as my son gets older as there are various animals to play with. I think the toy will last my son for well over a year as he will get different things from it as he grows and develops. By having the activities on a cube like these rather than having them separately it also suits us for storage purposes as it sits nicely in the corner of the room.

I would definitely recommend this for parents of children from 12 months (although closely supervised play at this age is probably required) as it offers a lot of stimulation and development opportunities. It certainly keeps my son occupied and happy!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Good quality toy that I would recommend!

I bought this Activity Cube for my son at Christmas, he was 18 months old at the time, which is the recommended age for the toy (he is now 21 months). I ordered the Activity Cube from Toys R Us and paid £39.99 but it is currently on offer for £29.99. The cube arrived packaged and ready assembled, apart from the lid which was in "storage mode" (see below).

The Activity Cube is good quality and made from wood, which is a very nice change to all the plastic toys! The wood is painted various bright colours, such as blue, orange and yellow. Each side of the cube has a different activity.

The first side has a colourful wooden xylophone attached, two wooden hammer type sticks are included for playing the xylophone (and bashing any other noisy surfaces in the home of course!). The xylophone plays well, although I always find metal xylophones to be better.

The second side of the cube is a magnetic white board, four different coloured/shaped wooden magnets are included, which stick well to the white board. I was worried about magnets being included as I thought they would be like standard fridge magnets with a magnetic strip on the back, but the magnetic part is safely hidden inside the wooden shapes, completely out of view and reach! The magnets are also a good strength, strong enough to easily stick to the white board but not strong enough to trap little fingers between.

The third side of the cube has five horizontal wires, each containing a row of ten wooden beads, each row of beads is a different colour. My son enjoys sliding each bead across and counting them, so it has been a great educational tool.

The forth side of the cube is a wooden sheet with thin squiggly lines cut out of it, there are different coloured wooden circular pegs to slide around the cut outs in the wood. Personally I think this is the weakest side of the cube as my son never uses it, even when I try to encourage him.

The top of the cube is painted green to represent grass, with a blue lake in the middle. There are lines cut out in the top of the wood, which hold a wooden seal, giraffe, polar bear and lion. These animals can all be slid along the cut outs and there is also a stationary tree. There are also three sturdy wires (blue, red and green) that are attached to the top of the cube that all twist and turn in different directions. Twelve chunky wooden beads slide along the wires. The beads are different colours and shapes and display images of a bird, fish, stars, flower, buttfly etc. My son enjoys sliding the beads around and pointing out the different images.

The top of the cube can very easily be removed by twisting two small plastic triangle locks on the edges of the lid. You then remove the lid of the cube and can flip it upside down to store inside the cube, and lock back into place. Once in this "storage mode" the lid is just a flat piece of green wood.

My son does enjoy playing with the Activity Cube and seems to be playing with it more often the last couple of months. He does play with it in the intended way but also asks for the lid to be removed quite a lot so that he can climb inside or fill with other toys!

Overall I would definitely recommend this Activity Cube, it's good quality, a good price and seems very sturdy and safe, and most of all, it is a toy that my son actually plays with! It is also a good toy for toddlers to start to learn the concept of sharing as it's big enough and has enough activities for more than one child.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Keeps a baby occupied for hours

I was actually given this cube by a friend and OMG I am so happy to have discovered it!

The cube has different activities on each side - one side has a white board with magnetic shapes and numbers (and you can obviously add your own for baby to play with), one side has a musical instrument, one has beads for them to learn to count and the other side has pegs for them to move around in different patterns.

The top of the cube has a fantastic activity using different animals that move around wires - it is set up like a zoo and my daughter loves it.

The top actually turns in on itself for very easy storage so it isn't as big as it seems.

The cube is large enough that you could easily have several children playing around it, but small enough that it fits away into a corner when baby is finnished with it.

If I hadn't been given this fantstic toy I would definitely have been buying one for my daughter's first birthday - I would recommend it to everybody.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

All in all a good toy

My mum was looking for something for my daughters first birthday, and she wanted to get her something that was fun but also educational - my mum likes educational toys! The Wooden Multi-Activity Cube from the Universe Of Imagination range at Toys R Us was recommended to her by one of her friends who had purchased it for their grandchild so we took a little trip over to toys r us to have a look. Typically for us we didn't check stock online so when we got there of course it was out of stock, (always happens to me, you'd think i'd learn!!) so we just ordered it online and hoped for the best!

When it finally came, just a few days before my daughters birthday, we had a quick look around the box, which was bright and had different pictures on the sides so you could see what it was like, we weren't disappointed as it looked fab.

On each side of the cube there are different activities for the child to play with:

Side One - There is a brightly coloured xylophone along with 2 little "hammers"
Side Two - A magnetic white board with magnets - there are four magnets, a green triangle, a yellow square, a red circle and a blue flower.
Side Three - There is a brightly coloured abacus, five rows, red, yellow, blue, green and orange
Side Four - On this side there is a pattern with wooden pegs in to flow round, like a little maze.
Top - On the top there is a little zoo with a zoo house, lion, giraffe, sea lion and polar bear - all of these are moveable and can travel around a little pathway. Above the animals is a twisty metal bar that beads can be moved around.
The top of the cube is fastened on with clips, but it can be taken off and turned upside down for easier storage.

This toy is brilliant to help a child's development. There is imagination with the zoo, musical with the xylophone, counting with the abacus, fine motor skills with the pegs. I think this is a really good toy however it is very heavy so a child would have difficulty in moving this around.

I don't know if i would recommend this to people as it is quite expensive at £39.99 but there are sometimes deals on, we were lucky to get it for £25 but i certainly wouldn't pay full price for it, there are cheaper options around which i think would be equally as good. Saying that my daughter has enjoyed playing with this, but now at two and a half she doesn't really seem to bother with it too much. The recommended age on this toy is 18months+ but i personally think at 12 months it isn't too young to receive and play with it.

        ok product

i brought this for my son for his birthday in july it is a great toy an he plays with it but im was not happy about this product the wires for the bead on top are loose when my son pulls the cube out the paint on the bottom of it rubs off on to my laminate flooring, the xylophone doesnt work properly as there too loose i decided to contact toysrus head office an they aranged for dhl to come an collect the cube for the headoffice to inspect it after a few weeks i recived a letter saying that they found it to be faulty an they have sent a new one out when i recived the new one the wires where the beads are is still faulty as for the paint leaving marks on the floorinh i decided to buy furniture pads an put them on the bottom corners which has work an not left arks on my floor as it cant touch the floor which is great even with the faults i decided not to send this one back ,

apart from the few faults this is a good toy there is even space inside to put small toys as the top part comes off, there is a white board to draw on with the right pen an also a abacus which is good when counting so even with its draw back i would still recommend it

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Great fun for young kids

The wooden activity cube is available from Toys 'R' Us and is aimed at young children from 18 months and over. The purpose of the cube is to help in the development of various skills in the child, and of course, to keep them entertained!

The beauty of this item is that it has a different activity on each side of the cube so there is plenty to keep the children occupied.

The top features wooden jungle animals than can be moved around the surface, as well as a wooden bead and wire puzzle. Round the sides of the cube you get a xylophone with wooden sticks, a magnetic board with magnetic shapes, a wooden maze puzzle, and a wooden abacus. The top of the cube can be easily removed so it can be easily stored.

The cube is made from wood and is very sturdy, it certainly withstands a lot of punishment from my little ones. It currently retails at £39.99 which I think is fair value for money when you consider the different bits it has to it.

This product is aimed at children from 18 months and over, however, my daughter got great enjoyment from it from when she turned one year old. The xylophone has proved very popular and the good news for parents is that it's not too loud!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A toy to keep them quite as there lots to play with.

As you can tell i have 3 daughters so i have loads of toys to review with different age ranges.

The toy I'm now going to review is now a Wooden Activity Cube.

This is a wooden toy from toys R us own range your child will never get fed up playing with this as it has so many different activity's

side 1- has a xylophone each key is a different colour and you have two hammers to hit them with

side 2- has a abacus these are also different colours

side 3- a maze you have little knobs that you can move about in and yes the knobs are different colours

side 4- is a wipe clean board which is also a magnetic board you get four magnetic shapes to go on here

and on the top you have another maze which is animals from the zoo and there is pictures so you can put the animals in their right homes.
also you have a labyrinth. the top is brilliant when it comes to putting away as you turn it up side down and it goes inside the cube and it locks in position with to little triangles.

This toy is very easy to chip with it being wood and its hard to clean on some places it is very heavy so watch your children if they try and pick it up.

This toy is very good it helps with your childs development so it is educational as well as keeping them quite and entertained.

The price is currently £34.99 i will admit when we brought ours for our daughter just before christmas we paid £19.99 for it.

as its a toys R us own brand you can only get it from there. You might be able to get a second hand one on ebay for this one they are going for around £14.99 so its worth checking it out if you don't mind a second hand one.

The recommended age for this is 18 months plus.

I would recommend this toy for other children as my daughter is two and loves it also my friends little boy comes round every week and he loves playing with it and he's 3 so it is well worth the money.
