Vtech move and groove music station. The Vtech move and groove music station is an affordable fun toy that is recommended for children aged one year and above. I generally find toys aimed at this age range never seem to last them long but I have caught my near five year old son enjoying a good play with this toy! Since September this year I have been looking after my nephew two days a week. A friend of mine kindly gave me this toy as her girls had out grown it and with my boys a couple of year's older baby toys are a little bit in short supply at my house! My nephew is 11 months old and I have a three year and a near five year old son. As soon as this toy entered my house all three of them were intrigued by it and since then my own son's have been caught playing with it on numerous occasions even when their cousin isn't in my care! This product is basically what it says on the box, it is a musical station. Compared too many products on the market of this type this station isn't too much on the big side. It measures roughly 51cms in width, 17cms in depth and 36cms at its highest point. The problem I found when my boys were little, living in a small house you struggle with having lots of bulky toys and storing them somewhere. The legs do de-attach from it and the guitar, drum and book can also be removed. So I find it packs away rather well. The height of the music station from the floor is perfect for little ones to sit at and play happily. This station has six main things too it. It has the keyboard, the microphone, the guitar, the drum, the book and the music symbol. All these pieces are interactive pieces for your little one to use. As well as all the interactive pieces there are two switches on the station, one controls the volume which has two settings and also has an offsetting. And the other switch is to switch from music mode to learning mode. The microphone is an actually working microphone and the sound from it comes out of a small speaker on the station. The sound from it isn't brilliantly clear but for a little one to make noises in it and hear their own voice it does the job. The guitar can be strummed, the drum can be pushed and the keyboard can be played as actual keys when it is in music mode. When the music station is in learning mode the keys either play out numbers or colours. Press the guitar and its numbers; press the drum and its colours. There are five keys on the music station so the keys are numbered one to five and each key is a different colour. We have blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Also on the music station is a music symbol which when pressed plays music out. To begin with my nephew just pressed this button over and over again to hear the music and dance to it. After a short time he realised the other parts were as excited if not more. The book on the station has one page to turn and it changes what it says from one side to the other. As I have mentioned this music station was a huge hit with my nephew from the moment his eyes set on it. It took him a bit of time to realise there was more than one button that did something but once he did he was well away. The only down side I have found to this product is the noise does get a bit annoying after a while but doesn't any toy that plays music. My three year old son always has a go with it when it comes out for my nephew. He particularly likes the microphone; he loves to hear his own voice! He does tend to tire of it very quickly though unlike my 11 month old nephew who sits at it for ages. Not only is it fun and noisy for your child it is educationally too, something most parents like to combine. As well as learning numbers and colours there are the instruments that your child can get familiar with too. As with most products there are a couple of things that mean I wouldn't give it top marks. I find the book is a nice looking piece and it gives the station a bit more of a full look but it doesn't seem to do a great deal I found this a little disappointing and I have found the children don't tend to bother with it either. And the only other problem I find I have with it is it is quite light weight which when you have a little one who is trying to use everything to keep himself up right, isn't always great. We have had a couple of falls. When I am having a clear out of toys I always go by what the children like and use regularly and this toy is one that would stay put as the my nephew loves it and my boys don't mind it either. The recommended retail price is £34.99 but it can be found cheaper. Currently (Dec 2012) Amazon has it for sale at £28.99. Found at a good price I think this toy would be a great purchase for your little child.
