My daughter was bought this toy for her first Christmas although she isn't interested in the programme in the night garden this was a simple toy to her rather than characters she recognised. You can buy the book over the internet and it costs around £15 which I think is an ok price as it is made by Vtech who are a leading company in educational toys.
The book is made of hard plastic, the spine is made up of coloured stripes in yellow, green and blue and then there is a sphere shape in the middle of the spin which is the speaker, I would have thought the speaker would have been on the rear of the book to make it less obvious but the sounds are probably clear as the speaker is actually part of each page as you go through the book. On the front of the book there is a picture of Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy and the Tombliboos and Makka Pakka along with the title of the book. The last page of the book extends up above the rest and has three interactive buttons on it for added play and the edges of each page has a little plastic lip on them in either yellow or blue to make it easier for little hands to manipulate the book. There is a orb ontop of the spine which lights up and the Vtech logo is also present on the front of the book.
The buttons on the top shaped as Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy plays sounds and music but I think that most of it must be from the tv show and as we don't watch the show it isn't recognisible to myself although my daughter still likes all the noises and sounds the book makes. The book is supposed to be for ages 6 months and up and I would say that this is about the right age and a parent could easily play with a child with this toy at this stage until they can manage themselves, my daughter started using the book herself at around 8 months old. The orb on top of the spine lights up when the book makes a noise and my daughter loved looking at the flashing when she was smaller (she was only 3 months when this was recieved). Each of the four pages show a different scene from the programme with speech bubbles on each page although there is not much of a story and there is a slider for making extra sounds.
My daughter likes this book but at just over a year now she is growing bored with it and this will be one of the toys that disappears after christmas, she loved watching the lights when she was too young to play and as she got older she enjoyed dancing to the music although she still shows no interest in the show. I like the book as from a practical point of view it is able to be cleaned easily as it it made of plastic and it has never needed the batteries changing in nearly a year, my only issue with the toy is it is a little too heavy and my daughter did manage to hit herself with it at one point and she was certainly less than impressed. Overall I would recommend this toy it has lights, music and sounds and the pages are all brightly coloured to help attract young ones.
My daughter loves In the Night Garden. She gets really excited whenever it is on the TV, so when I saw this book in Costco for £11.98 I had to get it for her.
The book is suitable for ages 6 months and over. The book is described as encouraging fine motor skill development, sensory development with it's variety of textures visuals and sounds it also heightens curiosity and encourages exploration.
The book requires 2 x AAA batteries, which are supplied.
The book is made from plastic at the top are two buttons one Iggle Piggle and one Upsy Daisy. There is an on/off button and two volume levels. The spine of the book is a thick plastic cylinder which is yellow and blue in colour, the speaker is in the middle of the book and at the top of the spine is a flashing white light. The first page of the book features a picture of Iggle Piggle along with the words to his song in speech bubbles, to activate the song for this book your child needs to push the Iggle Piggle button at the top of the book. The next page features Makka Pakka, again the words to the Makka Pakka song are in speech bubbles and you need to slide him along to activate the song. The next pages feature the Ninky Nonk and the Pinky Ponk, when these buttons are activated they make the noises as in the programme. The final page is Upsy Daisy and as with Iggle Piggle you can push her button at the top of the book to activate her song, or you can use the Upsy Daisy slider on the page. While every song is playing the light on the spine flashes.
This book is perfect for little hands. The pages are wipe clean and easy for a young child to open my daughter is 7 months and has no problem turning them. She can also slide the buttons across herself, she does need a little help to push the buttons at the top of the book. The book has a female voice and features the actual music and sounds from the programme. The lower volume level is sufficient for us I have used the higher setting but I find it a little loud. The book also turns itself off after 30 seconds if there is no interaction, I like the feature in toys as it means you don't have to switch them on and off everytime your child wants to play.
I would definately recommend this book for the younger In the Night Garden fan. Since we have bought this book it has been played with everyday, my daughter loves to sit with me or her dad and activate the songs and the light, I can see she is pleased with herself as she does it! we can also sing along too as the words are printed on the pages of the book.
5 out of 5 from us!
