“ Brand: Vtech / Type: Rattles / Type: Baby Rattles „
When my daughters have been particularily good they are given the opportunity to pick a small gift (more to encourage the four year old to behave in situations she usually wouldn't) on one such occassion we picked up this toy for our youngest little girl in an Asda Baby Event. Having looked on the internet I have found you can pick this toy up for about £5 whereas we paid £7 and that was supposed to be on an offer!
The toy is created by Vtech who are a leading brand in educational toys for young children so I fully expected this to be a good toy before even getting it home.
The toy is made to resemble a barn on a farm with a white carry handle to resemble the roof of the barn and then the main part of the toy being red with striped indentations to resemble the slats of wood on a barn. Across the top either side of the hand you have a yellow musical note shape on one side which lights up and the one off controls on the other side which also has 2 volume options which as a mother I always think is a great idea. On the front of the toy there are three heads which are also buttons, a chick, a cow and a sheep and then underneath the three heads are three little flaps of plastic which can be flipped up and down and these also have pictures on of a baby chick, a baby cow and a baby sheep. the toy is very brightly coloured being mainly red like I said but also having large bits of blue, green and yellow.
When the toy is switched on your child doesn't need to do anything the toy will tweet, moo and then say "peek a boo baby animals" and then sings a tune the animals are playing peek a boo. When you press each of the animal head buttons there are a number of little sayings such as "welcome to our farm", lots of animal noises and lots of little tunes. If you don't press anything on the toy it will launch into the animals are playing peek a boo song again which does get rather annoying. If you flip the plastics flaps up and down the toy will state "peek a boo I see you" and again more animal noises accompany this, if you press the buttons enough time eventually it will go through the sayings "a baby sheep is a lamb and a baby cow is a calf" It is quite strange that it doesn't seem to say anything about the chicken.
My daughter likes to turn this toy on, play for five minutes and then leave it which I find annoying as it keeps playing songs and animal noises while not being played with. The battery life is great as like I say it gets left on and I haven't had to change the batteries in over 6 months, when you do need to change the batteries there is a compartment on the back but it doesn't actually state what batteries it takes but at a guess by the size of the panel I would say 2 AAs. The toy doesn't seem to hold my daughters attention for very long so I would say £5 is a decent price and the toy doesn't teach anything other than the baby sheep and baby cow. The toy is attractive as it is brightly coloured and lights up and flashes while the tunes are playing, a couple of the tunes can be recognised such as Old Macdonald but I have no idea what some of them are.
Overall an average toy really, there are much better and much worse but for the price you can't complain and my daughter does enjoy but just for short amounts of time.
