      Wouldn't recommend

My daughter received Tiny Love's Follow Me Fred for her birthday. Her grandparents bought it for her because she loves to chase things as she's crawling around the room and thought that this would be a great toy for her to crawl after with it being designed to move along on it's own. Having checked today, it's available from Argos (online only) for £18.99, reduced from £22.99. I have to admit that although I thought I was up on baby toys, I had never previously heard of the brand Tiny Love before she received this gift.

      Fred's Vital Statistics
Fred is made up of an array of colour - he has an orange head, red ears, a green body, a green tail, blue collar and multi-coloured legs. Our Fred has the same shape and features as the picture shown here but has a different colour scheme. He's bright and as soon as my daughter saw him, she wanted him out of the packaging! He measures around 25cm long, 20cm high and 10cm wide - he looks a bit like a sausage dog with his long slim body. The main part of his body is actually made up of corrugated plastic but it is quite rigid so Fred doesn't actually pull longer or shorter with it, it just makes him more bendy to the left or to the right. My daughter isn't strong enough to move it in this way, but she enjoys putting her hands on it and running along it so that it makes a loud noise. Fred is made up of plastic mostly, so he's easy to clean although his head and tail are made up of fabric which are a bit harder. As he's a mixture of the two and takes batteries, he can't be placed in the washing machine - I usually just use a sponge on the fabric parts though to wipe him clean and they seem to clean ok. He needs one AAA battery to keep him moving - one is included and ours has lasted a few weeks so far.

      Fred's Design
His design is a bit of a disappointment to me. Fred will only move across the floor if he is switched on and a button is pressed on one of his front legs that makes him move along. There's no real way of my daughter playing with him on the floor independently by moving him about herself as his legs are very rigid and his feet (well paws!) have wheels on that are locked in place when he's switched off. Although she can't play with him along the floor, he does come with some smaller basic activities on him which she likes to investigate. She especially likes his ears because they crinkle - she loves to play with those. You can press his other front leg to make him bark which is quite sweet too. He also lets you know when you've left him alone for a while - he'll yelp and whine every so often. He has rattle balls built into one of his legs too but I don't see the point of those because he's quite heavy so she can't pick him up to make them rattle nor do they rattle when he walks along either!

His pace is incredibly slow too. As I mentioned, he was bought as a gift so that she could chase him around the room, but unfortunately Fred is far too slow for that and she catches him less than a second after he starts moving - lets say he's more of a plodding sort of dog. He moves at a snails pace and it would probably take him around 5 minutes to get from one end of the living room to the other! She seems to lose interest with him quickly because he just doesn't catch her eye at the pace he goes. The packaging stated that he had speed settings but these seem to be just a choice of slow or slower, rather than fast or slow.

      Conclusion
I can't recommend this toy - it looked great in the box (and she thought so too!) but he just doesn't really do anything of interest - for £18.99, I think it's extremely expensive for what it is. We've had toys that cost similar to this previously and have included far more and kept her entertained far more too. I have to rate Fred 2 stars. He earns a couple for being cute, having a couple of small activities on him and being easy to clean but that's about it.

      Thanks for reading :o)
