      Lovely teether

I bought this teether online along with a heap of other baby goods before my first baby was born. It appealed to me as I loved the Hungry Caterpillar book when I was small and was pleased to see you can now buy all sorts of Hungry Caterpillar memorabilia.

This teether toy is about 6 inches long. It has a metal rattle in its head, on the next section down is a silver star and crinkly texture material. The rest of the 4 remaining sections also have crinkly material sound inside and the middle one has a picture of a strawberry on it.

The tail end is the teether end, it is a slightly flexible rubber feeling green paddle shape. On one side it has dozens of tiny bobbles and on the other side are 3 wavy lines for different textures for your baby to feel against their gums.

The body of the caterpillar is thin enough to be held easily by a baby and the teether part is of very good shape, texture and size. The rattle in the head is neither too loud or too quiet. It is well made and of good quality. Both my children have liked this teether, they haven't loved it but they have both played with it. This may be because it isn't all chewable and maybe didn't like the material in their mouths if they sucked on it.

I paid £5 for it, I think from Kiddicare or somewhere similar. This price is ok, maybe a little high as it doesn't do much, but it is good quality and I guess you always pay more for the fact that it is Hungry Caterpillar. Overall a nice teether and looks cute too.

A cute teether but not of great interest to my baby

There was little point in purchasing a lot of toys for my daughter last CHristmas as, at the time she was only just 4 months old, but we did get her a few things for her stocking, one of which was this Very Hungry Caterpillar Teether which at the time cost me around a fiver on amazon, but it has since increased by a couple of pounds in price, making it quite an expensive teether!

I love the Very Hungry Caterpillar story and have a hardback edition of it ready for my daughter, who isn't quite ready for it yet, so when I saw the teether, I thought it looked very cute and an ideal size to fit right into my handbag to be able to carry with me whenever we were out and about.

This toy actually only has a teether part at one end of the caterpillar, which forms the tail. The rest of the caterpillar is made up of various textured parts and soft felt legs. It is bright and colourful to attract baby and has a cute little face as well. The other good thing about this teether is that when shaken it rattles.

When we opened the stocking on Christmas morning, we thought of the few things we had got our daughter, this would be the one most suitable for her age at the time, and the one that would catch her attention the quickest - but we were completely wrong. She wasn't the least bit interested in it, and didn't even want to chew on it, despite her already bringing everything to her mouth. My husband and I looked at each other in amazement and slight disappointment! A few months on, and she will now at least use it as a teether and shake it to hear the rattle noise, but it certainly is not a favourite, and usually gets thrown in favour of other toys around. To be honest, I don't quite understand why she doesn't like it that much, as she usually likes colourful toys, and the only slight negative I see about the product is that the body of the toy is quite hard, despite it being textured, but I am surprised that it would be enough to put her off.

All in all, I think this is a very cute teether/ rattle, and cannot quite understand why it has never been a big hit with my little girl, and it is quite likely that another child could take to this toy very well. I do not think that it is worth the higher price that is now being charged on amazon for it, as I think there are other teethers out there that offer more than this, and are certainly a bigger hit with my little girl (and have often cost less!)
