~~~~~~~~~~ Hand-me-down ~~~~~~~~~~ This rattle was given as a gift to my daughter when she was first born. Now she is 4, she is obviously long past playing with this, but she has kindly donated it to her new baby brother. Visually, this is a very interesting looking toy. It is made from hard plastic and is about 7 inches across. Around the outside there are two loops lying flat 'on top' of one another - these can actually be twisted apart to form more of a ball shape. Inside is another loop which is clear on one side, spins round and is full of tiny coloured balls. And inside this is another ball which is also made half of clear plastic. Inside this are more coloured balls. This also spins around. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bright and interesting ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So there is a lot to see and this makes the toy visually very stimulating. The colours are bright, with shades of blue, green, yellow, pink, orange and purple. There are parts to spin and pull, and the small coloured balls means the toy rattles too. Also the loops around the outside of the toy have different textures so it can relieve sore gums on teething babies. My little girl always liked this when she was tiny, and my son is the same. He seems to enjoy simply looking at this as it is so bright and interesting, and he also watches with interest when I spin the middle sections. He is also now at the point where he is starting to play with toys himself and he seems to like shaking this - this is a bit of a negative thing really as he has bashed himself on the head with this a few times! He also loves playing on his tummy, so this is great for that as it rolls around in front of him and he likes to push and pull it about. All in all I think this is a fantastic first toy for babies. It is really well designed with a lot going on to interest little ones - bright colours, rattling, spinning and so on. Despite having had ours for years it looks as good as new so is very durable - as my poor little boy's head will testify! And best of all, this is only £5 in Mothercare which I think is a really great price. ~~~~~~~~ In summary ~~~~~~~~ I would highly recommend this toy as a gift for a newborn, or a baby's first Christmas. It is bright, cheap and cheerful, and has definitely been a hit in my house with both my little ones.
