      great alternative to a buggy

Purchased this trike for my sons first birthday to have as an alternative to the buggy which he wasnt much of a fan of. The trike was relatively easy to put together and took my husband around 20 minutes to put together and make sure it was secure. Initially we put the trike together with the parent handle and side rails and seat belt with foot rests. The parent handle allows the adult pushing to steer the trike and although the child can hold onto the handle bars the adult is fully in control of the direction the trike goes. The seat belt is a five point harness which gives good security and the added feature of the side rails ensures they stay safe in the seat. There are pedals and foot rests. We put the foot rests of as our son was too young to be peddling however the foot rests are too far forward and his feet were no where near reaching them. This meant his feet just hung down and although he didn't seem particularly bothered by this im sure it would have been much more comfortable to have somewhere to rest them.
The trike also comes with a sun shade which initially i thought would be very helpful, I just felt it got in the way. It is quite flimsy and the slightest bit of wind sent it flying straight up therefore giving my son no shade and also blocking our view of where we were walking. In the end we removed the shade and left it in the garage as it became redundant.

There is a handy bottle holder on the parent handle which was used frequently for his or our water bottle. There is also a basket at the back which was great for storing a small changing bag so we could put change of clothes/nappies/wiipes etc

The trike is a smooth ride and quite easy to steer. I didn't find it the easiest thing ever but Im not particularly great with a buggy either! My husband was put incharge of pushiing and found it easy. My son much preferred the trike to his buggy and would happily sit in it for a long time. I think the low sides and open space made him feel a bit more independent that a buggy.

We used this trike to go around colchester zoo which is very hilly and very big and it was so helpful having the trike and my son happily sat in it the entire time and we got many stares and comments from other parents. We also over heard many other parents say 'oh we should have brought our trike' or 'I wish we had one of those' while they pushed their screaming child in a buggy or dragged their young child around who obviously had tired legs.

We look forward to the next stage when our son can peddle the bike for himself.
