My friend's little boy received a rocking horse for his birthday earlier this year and since we are freefalling rapidly towards Christmas I thought it might be a good idea for me to tell you about it as it would make an excellent present which would last for quite a while! To give it the full title it is a Pintoy Baby Rocking Horse and it is made from strong, durable Rubber wood and from what I have seen would make a lovely traditional addition to any nursery. I don't know how much my friend's rocking horse cost so I have been taking a look on the internet and initially found it at www.amazon.co.uk at a cost of £54 apparently reduced from £56 but then I found it at www.kidsrooms.co.uk for just £45. Incidentally I have already written a review about Kidsrooms as my niece bought her son a toy chest from them and she was very impressed with both the site and the service she received. Anyway back to the rocking horse ............... It is a reasonable size to fit in the nursery being just 73cm wide by 30cm deep and 52cm high but it is plenty big enough for children aged one year and above as it will evolve with your child, read on and I will explain. The horse has plain wooden rockers onto which are fitted two red back legs and a red front with horses head. There is a bright blue seat for the rider to sit upon and a yellow back rest complete with cut out carrying handle so mom and dad can easily move the horse around. There are two foot rests, two hand holds and also side rails for extra safety which can be easily removed as the child gets older. The back can also be removed if wished as well so you would just end up with the rocking horse having a seat hand holds and foot rests, obviously this would be for the slightly older jockey! There are soft pads on each end of both of the rockers so that the rocking horse does not mark your floor or hurt any small feet that might get in the way. As with all John Crane Pintoy products it is made from replenishable Rubber wood so it is eco friendly and it is strong and sturdy so it will withstand the knocks and bangs of boisterous play. There are no sharp edges for little hands or heads to get bumped on - everything is finished to a very high standard for safety and good looks too. My friend's son loves his rocking horse and he and his slightly older cousin have rocked it fairly energetically without any problems. In conclusion you have an excellent, safe, well made toy which will last well enough to be passed on once it has been outgrown. It will help the younger child learn to balance whilst keeping him safe within the side restraints and it will give the older child indoor exercise when the weather isn't good enough for outdoor play. I also found out when checking the price information on the internet that this rocking horse was rated 'Recommended' by the TimeOut KidsOut Good Toy Guide. In my opinion this would make a brilliant present for a boy or girl to last way beyond Christmas Day! Oh, and one last thing, the toy itself is silent and that has to be an advantage for mom and dad. LOL!

It was originally bought from John Lewis for around £40. My little boy was 18 months when he got it and loved it from the first moment he saw it. 6 months on and the rocking chair has definitely become one of the most well loved toys in his collection. The baby rocking horse is beautifully made from high quality rubber wood. It is painted in bright primary colours. There are fours rubber stoppers on the actual rockers to prevent damage to the floor - a very useful feature indeed! The rocking horse is suitable for ages 12 months and upwards. The seat back can be adjusted and the safety rails are removable when the child is ready. These clever design features allow the toy to adapt as the toddler gets older and grows in confidence. The rocking horse dimensions are: 52cm (H) x 30cm (W) x 73cm length. It has provided hours of fun for my toddler and has lasted extremely well (especially after quite heavy use from two children). It is a few years old now and still looks in great condition despite the amount of rocking back and forth the poor old thing has had! It is traditional in design but has useful modern features as outlined above.
My second daughter was given this rocking horse as an early first birthday present from granny. When I saw it I thought it looked beautiful, but was sceptical as to whether it would get used, having seen friends buy expensive rocking caterpillars and the like and see them gather dust. I have to say that in actual fact this has been a fantastic toy. The horse is made from very good quality wood - as with all John Crane pintoy products. It is brightly painted and resists knocks and bangs well. It has a relatively small footprint; I just measured and I reckon it takes up about 30cm by 70cm of floor space so not excessive! What I didn't realise when I received the horse is that it has been designed to evolve with your child. The side bars come off once the child is more stable, and then you can actually remove the back too. This means that this toy can be used from the fairly confident at sitting stage right up to the toddler years. The bars unscrew easily as a fellow rocking horse owning friend pointed out to me - mine came assembled and not in a box. The rocking horse does what you would expect - rocks, but there are soft pads on the tips of the rockers so that the horse is stable and also so small feet and your floor are not hurt. It has been rocked quite energetically by both my children very safely and with much enjoyment. In practice this item has had a lot of use and to my delight has not stayed in a corner ignored. There are no bells and whistles - the toy does not make a noise or anything, to me this is a plus! I would think that by age 3 she will have more or less outgrown it, but it is a toy I will keep for the next generation. I liked the look of it so much my daughter sat in it for her first birthday official portrait. This horse is currently priced at the £50 mark at amazon, but is also available for slightly less from other online retailers and I have seen it in John Lewis stores too. This is a lovely item if you are looking for lovely present or item to keep - well done Granny!
A first rocking horse, designed to evolve as the rider becomes more confident. The protective seat surround is replaced by a back wedge and the foot rests become the handlebars. The rockers have rubber tips to add stability and protect floors.
