Great toy for little Barney fans

Our son was about 1 year old when he started enjoying Barney on the television. We decided to see if we could get him some toys to play with. We actually couldn't find many but came across this soft singing toy in Argos. It was good for the money. £9.99 or on offer with the 2 for £15 toys. Its a great size for little hands and not too big for children yo carry around. It came eith batteries in and has been well played with and still has the same batteries in. If you squeeze the heart on the dinosaurs belly he sings the I love you song. The colour and style is that of Barney off the tv and the voice is correct too. After a while I do find the same song quite annoying so it could possibly do with having a few different songs recorded on it. Absolutely loved and played eith daily by my son though so a definate winner from him!

only worth while getting if your child is a massive Barney fan

Fisher Price I Love You Barney **WHAT IS IT** This is a plush toy which looks like Barney. If you don't already know, Barney is a character from a popular American children's show who happens to be a big purple dinosaur. This particular toy is soft and cuddly and when you press the tummy Barney will sing to you. It is roughly 30cm in size. Two AA batteries are needed for this toy however they were included with the toy. It is suitable for children aged 18months upwards. My daughter is 2 and she still plays with this toy. I think it really will go out of fashion once she grows out of Barney. I think this is starting to happen already **WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE & DOES** Well it looks like Barney who is a dark purple dinosaur which has a big smiling face and inside his mouth is black in colour. You can also see his bright white teeth which all merge into each other. He has a brightly coloured green belly and a on his chest he has a heart. On his back just above his tail he has three green spots. He has a very friendly face and his arms look like he is posed for a hug. On this particular Barney there is a heart where his heart would be and I love you is embroidered in green and pink. The 'Love' isn't a word it is the shape of a heart. The voice box is easily gotten to by opening a velcro section in his back which is sort of like a pocket that the voice box is kept in. The actual voice box has a cream plastic cover on it which you can choose to switch off if you wish. When you pull this out of the pocket you realise that it is sewn into the pocket so it won't come off completely. If you need to change the batteries you can use a screwdriver and change them. I would advise you not to let your little one see you change this as they then will constantly want to explore and do it themselves as well. When you press Barney's belly he will sing I Love you, you love me, we're a happy family, with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you won't you say you love me too. This is what Barney sings at the end of each episode so any child who watches the show will be familiar with it. It's isn't overly long and only lasts approximately 15 seconds. The same song is played each time. **PACKAGING** This toy is mounted onto a small box which has the Barney logo on it and a picture of Barney. There is a piece of cardboard behind Barney to keep him mounted upwards. This means that you can touch the toy and feel the softness of it before you buy it. You can also press his belly to hear what he sounds like before you buy him. You have to make sure to remove all the tags which are attached to the cardboard and Barney before giving them to your child as they would be extremely dangerous if they tried to eat them. **WHAT MY DAUGHTER THINKS** My daughter likes this toy and she enjoys playing with it. Sometimes she likes Barney better than other times however he isn't her favourite character, others take preference with her at the minute however she is older now. She first got this toy as a present at Christmas when she was a year and half, now she is two years old and doesn't have the same interest in Barney as she used to have. My daughter never grows old of pressing the belly and listening to Barney sing. She loves to dance to the short tune played. I have to say I do not share her enthusiasm as it is extremely repetitive to hear over and over again. She enjoys giving him a cuddle every now and then. As she doesn't take toys to bed with her to cuddle to sleep it was never used for this. It may be of more use to a child who does do this. **MY OPINION** This toy cost around £9.99 and my daughter received it as a Christmas present. I have to say I don't really think that it really is worth the money to be honest. My daughter only looks at it every now and then and it isn't really one of her favourite toys and it never really was. It is really one of them toys that just gathers dust and takes up space. The only way I can imagine that it would be a good toy is that if your child is a massive Barney fan. I do have to admit that the toy is made very well and it is very soft and cuddly to touch. The hair on the dinosaur isn't too long and I am in no way worried about the fibres becoming lose which I have found a problem with other cuddly toys. The music can be annoying to adults (or me specifically) but my daughter does like this aspect of this toy. I do feel that it is too expensive for a cuddly toy that doesn't have much educational value. The only thing it potentially teaches your child is the 'I Love You' song. This may not have been a problem for me as my daughter doesn't cuddle toys in bed but I do think that if she did with this toy it would make her more awake as music would start playing every time Barney's belly was squeezed. This function can be turned off if you wish I suppose. Personally I would only recommend this toy to anyone who's child really loves Barney otherwise it really is a waste of money. The toy is made very well but it doesn't really do much and I find the music being played constantly annoying.

      A must for Barney fans

Barney is a very popular American kids TV show. My son was bought this for his second birthday, he is now six and although he doesn't love Barney that much anymore, his little sister who's two does so this toy has been passed down to her. As this was bought as a gift I'm not sure how much was paid but I see that Argos are currently selling him for £9.99 or on special offer for 2 for £15.00 mix and match with other toys. I do usually think merchandise for from children's TV is over priced but this is reasonable. The toy itself is about 30cm in height. It is a pretty good likeness to the famous dinosaur, the colours are all correct and also lovely and bright and the features are all there to make him look almost identical to his television counterpart. I am really impressed at how soft he still is, and although you could probably wash him, I haven't needed to yet as the muck just doesn't seem to stick to him. I am very happy with the quality of this toy, the stitching is still in tact and the Velcro on his back is still sticking together well. The Velcro comes apart to change the batteries. He requires 2x AA batteries, and I have only changed them 3 or 4 times. That works out at about once a year so I think that's pretty good. The batteries are necessary because Barney sings his 'I love you' song that is sung at the end of all his shows. To get this to work you just need to give his tummy a little squeeze. My daughter finds the right spot easily and is happy to be rewarded with one of her favourite songs. The only real downside is from a parent's point of view that the song can get a tad annoying and start to grate on you after a while. This is probably just a matter of patience, after all there are several other toys that have terrible music and ear bashing sounds, at least this is tuneful and clear and not too loud. I am really happy with this product. Four years is a long time for a toy to be loved and played with, but my daughter has had this a few months to herself now and I can see it lasting for all the time she needs it too. Barney is recommended for age 18 months+. I think you could give it to a younger child with supervision; they probably wouldn't associate him with the programme but would enjoy the music and cuddlyness all the same. For toddlers though he is fantastic, just the right size to be held and loved and at a great price.

My 2 year old daughter received this as a Christmas present this year from Santa (her big cousin). He was a fan of Barney himself right up to the age of 7 so he thought that it would be nice to share a gift that he loves. He never told me where he bought this from but I found online on the ARGOS website for £9.99 or you can buy it and another (selected) item for 2 for £15. My daughter has never watched any Barney programme before but for some reason she knew the I love you song which he sings and took to the purple dinosaur right away. As you are aware there are many Barney dinosaurs out there and compared to them this one I would say is rather small. The soft 10 inch Barney is perfect for cuddles, there are no hard bits inside for your child to hurt themselves so please don't worry. The recommended age for Barney is 18 months old but I personally don't see a problem with buying it for a younger child say maybe even a new born. The only issue that I can see is for smaller babies would not be able to press his tummy to activate the song which maybe frustrating for them. As for the safety point of you I do understand that occasionally bits and pieces can pop off but having a look at my daughters Barney I could see that the eyes are stitched into the actual fabric of the toy so there are no choking hazards and there are no bits that are hard or sharp that your young child can hurt themselves on. The only bad thing that I have to say about Barney is that the song can be a little annoying if pressed a lot like my daughter does. Fair enough don't get me wrong I think it is great that she is enjoying her new toy and especially hearing her sing but the "I love you, you love me" song has well and truly got stuck in my head. I think at the age of nearly 23 walking down the street or doing the dishes really isn't very attractive for me to be singing this. Anyways I'm hoping that I soon grown out of it either that or grown up and stop singing songs that are meant for a child to be joining in on the sing a long song. As I said I am not sure how much that my little cousin paid for this but I did find it on the ARGOS website for £9.99 which I think is fantastic. It is a reasonable price for excellent quality toy. My daughter loves it which is the most important thing and despite the button constantly being pressed I am in hope that the batteries soon run out lol. Just a little bit more information about the product that you will probably already know is that that there are different ways that you can order the product. You can phone the store to either reserve and pick up or get them to deliver it but it is an 0845 number that will cost you a pretty penny or you can visit http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Home.htm which lets you reserve to pick up and tells you what store has got what items that you are wanting in stock or you can also use the website to get them do deliver which I feel is better as this save you money on a telephone call. But please note that there is a delivery charge of £5.80 so bare that in mind if you do wish you get it delivered. If you bought this product and for what every reason you are not happy with it. I had enclosed the direct page below with all the relevant information that you will need take the product back. You can find this at: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Home.htm A fellow reviewer informed me that lots of cash back sites pay out on Argos orders so you could get it even cheaper! So if you are a member of any of these sites then you will find this bit of information useful and for those that don't maybe think about joining one to save some pennies. I would rate this product a 8 out of 10. The only reason for a lower mark next to 10 is that it is the only thing that Barney does. No phrases or other songs except the famous "I love you, you love me song". I would like to take the time to tell you that I appreciate you reading my review and I hope it is of some use to you. Thanks again and if you do decide to buy yourself or someone else you know a Barney I hope you or they have as much fun with him as my daughter does.

Brilliant toy for barney lovers and young children

My daughter is mad on barney at the minuite. So for her second birthday a few days ago we bought her this lovely teddy of him that sang to her. He is about 12 cm tall so she has been able to carry it everywhere with her. He is a purple t-rex dinosaur with a green tummy that has a heart on it. When the heart is pressed he sings the well known barney song as follows I love you You love me Were a happy family with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you wont you come and join us too. This is a lovely song that my daughter loves to try and sing, she has now mastered the first two lines of it and will sing it to me and give me a big kiss and hug which I find really nice. The teddy is soft with not bits that will come off or be able to be swallowed. This only cost me £10 from amazon which was a very good investment due to finances being tight and has been one of the best toys she has had. This toy is able to be carried around very easy with the child. The only downside is that she tends to press the button so many times the song is constantly stuck in my head. This is a lovely toy for children that love barney and is well worth the money.

A gorgeous soft toy that my granddaughter absolutely adores.

One of the gifts my granddaughter received for her second birthday was the I Love You Barney which I bought from Argos as part of their '2 toys for £15' deal. Despite the fact that she rarely watches the television programme she immediately took to this toy and knew who he was as she regularly goes on a Barney themed ride at our local Morrisons. The design of the toy is lovely, it's true to other Barney toys I've seen and is instantly recognisable as the friendly purple dinosaur that we all know and put up with - I would say all know and love but I challenge you to find a person aged over ten who isn't irritated no end by his dopey and oh-so Godly voice on the television! This Barney toy is very soft and cuddly with absolutely no sharp or rough edges at all to cause injury, even the eyes are stitched into the actual fabric of the toy so there are no choking hazards either. The recommended age for Barney is 18 months plus although personally I see no problem with buying it for a younger child safety wise, the only issue being that smaller babies would not be able to press his tummy to activate the song and this may prove frustrating for them. He stands roughly 10" tall and this is my only complaint really as pictured in the Argos book the toy looked like it would be much bigger, the accompanying picture shows a child of around three playing with him and it certainly appears that she is holding a taller and slightly bulkier toy. One thing I love about the toy is that the place where you need to press for Barney's famous 'I love you, you love me' song is clearly marked with a stitched heart logo at the exact place where your little one's fingers need to press down. This is an excellent design as recent purchases of these speaking toys have shown me that the speech activation capsule inside can be awkward for a toddler to find, my granddaughter has had terrible trouble getting some of her toys to work as her pudgy little hands can't always find the correct place to press. The speech capsule has just the right amount of sensitivity that Barney doesn't start singing at the merest breath of wind (like her Laa-Laa Teletubby) but will always play the song when my granddaughter decides she wants to press it. She giggles when Barney starts singing and is gradually learning the song herself, which is aided by the fact that the toy only sings the one song and while this would be irritatingly repetitive in any other toy the song is long enough in this instance to ensure it doesn't become boring for children or their ever suffering adult guardians! Apart from my son in law who visibly shakes with annoyance by the time Barney has been pressed 30 times in a day! I think the volume of the toy is perfect too, it's not so loud that it drowns out background noise but has a high enough volume that my granddaughter can really concentrate on the words of the song and therefore learn it easily. She has several toys that are so loud her parents have taken them off her, but this one is perfectly acceptable although I have noticed that the volume gets quieter when the batteries need replacing. The usual price for this toy is £9.99 which I think is very reasonable for such a well made high quality toy. My granddaughter absolutely adores him, which is surely the most important point in this review, and he is rapidly taking over Upsy Daisy as her bedtime teddy bear - although it caused some confusion the first time she took him to bed as she rolled onto him in her sleep and all her mum could hear was 'I love you' coming through the baby monitor, she thought it had picked up an American television channel instead of her daughter's sleeping noises!

Just squeeze the 'I Love You' logo on Barney's body to hear him sing his favourite song.
