When it came to my daughters first birthday recently I had been after getting her this train as we are big disney lovers in thos house and I liked how colourful it is. So when I saw it on offer for £7.00 at tesco direct I knew I had to have it for her.
The train has the main train at the front and two carriages that hook onto the back of the main engine. Each carriage comes with a disney character that can be removed and played with seperately to the rest of the toy. The main engine has a removable dumbo toy thats legs move and click and has textured feet; my daughter seems to favour the dumbo over anything else! The second carriage has a simba cub which is similar to the dumbo in that its legs click and move and are textured; its just smaller than dumbo but still nice and chunky for little hands. The final carriage has a dalmatian character from 101 Dalmatians. This is the smallest and least interesting of the characters has its a solid toy with a very quiet rattle inside, so at 1 my daughter isn't that interested by it.
The main engine has a switch to turn it on either volume one, volume two or off. Once its on you can press the trains funnel and it lights up, sings or says a phrase. To say its called the sing a long train it could do with having more than just one short sing a long song from the lion king. The funnel is easy to press and my little one quickly got the hang of it.
All the carriages are nice and chunky for little hands and are brightly coloured although when the train is altogether it can be hard for baby to move on their own. Honestly though my daughter rarely plays with it as one toy she plays with each part individually.
Fisher price recommend the toy from 6 months which is a little young in my opinion I think a year onwards is more like it.
Like I mentioned before I got mine on offer in tesco and I'm glad I didn't pay the rrp of nearly £40 for as I would of been disappointed with what I got for the price but at £7.00 it was a great buy.
Overall its a nice toy but its way over priced if you pay full retail for it. If its on offer I'd recommend it for either boys or girls its definitely a unisex toy that can be enjoyed by young and older children too. Its nice and sturdy like you'd expect from fisher price.
4 out of 5 stars.
I ordered the Fisher Price Disney Sing Along Choo Choo Train from Amazon a couple of months ago. Unfortunately my baby is all grown up now but I still like to have some baby toys in the house for young visitors! I have a young nephew and a lot of my friends have babies...
It came in a cardboard box (open fronted so you can test it out) and took about 15 minutes to get out of the ridiculous packaging!
The train was much larger than I expected, which I was very pleased about. It was eye catching and colourful. It had flashing lights, sounds and cute characters - I instantly knew it would be be a hit.
The train features 3 adorable and recognisable Disney characters - Simba (the lion cub from The Lion King), Dumbo (the young elephant from Dumbo) and Lucky (the puppy from 101 Dalmatians). The toys are chunky and perfect for little fingers to easily grip on to. The animals can also be moved around/removed from the train and played with on their own. Each animal has their own special features, which is great fun for little ones to discover - Dumbo has teether ears and movable/noisy joints, Simba also has movable/noisy joints (and a tail to hang him from the train) and Lucky is a rattle. The animals also have textured feet and the train also has a spinner and movable bumble bee on it.
I ordered the train thinking that it moved itself along, but it doesn't. The train must be pushed by hand (no extra batteries required!). Although I initially found this slightly disappointing, I actually realised it was for the best - pushing the train along has educational aspects, plus watching it ride along would be fun for a little while but might become a little boring in the long run. The train is quite noisy on wooden floors but is really easy for little ones to push around, even on carpets. The only small downside is that the carriages come apart quite easily which can be slightly frustrating.
The whole set is made of thick durable plastic. There are no sharp edges or hazards (a screwdriver is required to reach the battery compartment). It's easy to wipe clean. There are different volume settings, we usually have it on the quieter setting as it can be quite noisy, especially when being set off every 10 seconds! The age recommendation is 6 months - 3 years. It's very robust and can endure lots of throwing around! I would say it's very good quality.
The sounds and songs are lovely. They're fun and relatively educational. We particularly like the Simba song from The Lion King which ends with a big "ROAR!". It's a shame there aren't a few more songs though (especially since it's called a 'Sing Along' train). You need to press a large button on top of the chimney to activate the sounds, this is really easy for little ones to do by themselves. The button flashes as the train makes sounds which seems to captivate babies! My nephew and my friends babies have been loving this toy. Not only is the train fun to play with but the animals are enjoyable to play with too, so it's like having 4 toys in 1! I would say the educational aspects of this toy are that it encourages hand eye coordination (pressing the button, pushing the train, exploring the animals), language development (the sounds and sounds) and some gross motor skills (such as pushing the train along and crawling after the train).
The Fisher Price Disney Sing Along Choo Choo Train is available at most toy shops, supermarkets and online retailers. It generally costs around the £30.00 mark which I do think is a little overpriced, although it is a lovely, good quality, well enjoyed toy so I give it 4 stars and would be happy to recommend it to all under 24 months.
