An out of production huge garage, ideal if you can get hold of one

FISHER PRICE BIG ACTION GARAGE FISHER PRICE HUGE GARAGE A very large Fisher Price garage with spiral ramps. There is a manual lift to transport cars up the floors of the garage and various ways to come down. There are spiral ramps or a straight ramp which can be adjusted so that the cars can do jumps. Various barriers on each ramp entry & exit & entrance to garage etc Petrol pump complete with hose & nozzle There is a storage tray for cars & flags etc which slides in under the middle ramp Lots of stickers depicting floor levels, service bay etc THIS IS A HUGE GARAGE, VERY STURDY, WILL TAKE ALL PLAY THROWN AT IT, AND WILL EVEN SUPPORT A TODDLER'S WEIGHT AGAINST IT. It measures approx 29" wide x 28" high x 18" deep. It can be used with other types of car, not just the ones that came with it. This is a fantastic garage for children (& Dad's!). It is very sturdy, will support the weight of a small child leaning against it & take all manner of play. I went through a phase of buying these at car boot sales then selling them on ebay. Typically they would cost around £10 at boot sales & sell for anything between £30 & £70 on ebay if in excellent condition with everything present & correct. Or £10 to £15 for a damaged one (& if you want the buyer to collect it reduces the amount of interested people & you will get less for it). The problem is packing them up & posting which costs around £15 & involves lots of making up cardboard box to fit it & packing to protect it in transit( a job for my older son to do, it's beyond me!) I have given this up now. I have saved the best one for when the grandchildren come to play. I also managed to buy on ebay a brand new one still boxed!!! I am holding on to this as a collector's item. This was an amazing find seeing as this garage is long out of production. If you want a rare one, look out for the Ferrari model which is more valuable - the same but different colours with different stickers & flags & different more sporty cars etc. I would thoroughly recommend looking out for either model of these garages, either at ebay or a car boot sale. If you have a young son or Grandson, he will love it. It will be money well spent & will probably still be strong & good to go in your attic when he has outgrown it! They don't make 'em like it nowadays!

My little boy has just turned two and we bought this for his main birthday present. On ripping off the wrapping and clasping his eyes on it for the first time he was in a word nothing short of ecstatic! He's always adored anything to do with cars and will sit for ages at our windowsill just watching the cars drive past our house so we thought this would be an ideal pressie....and we were right! One word of warning, although I was out of the house at the time my husband put this garage up (the night before Jack's birthday) I was well informed when I arrived home, that the bloomin thing was in about a thousand pieces! and it took him all of an hour and half to put it together! needless to say the hard work paid off and my husband enjoys playing with it as much as Jack and his older brother do! **Please note unless your planning on putting this in a childs bedroom please make sure you have the room for it downstairs, luckily we do, but it is quite big at approx 28" high (at the highest point) by 30" across (at the widest)** Now the general eebie-jeebies of it: **Now I'm not to clever when it comes to motor-racing - or anything to do with cars really! but going off the stickers(!) the garage is a 'Ferrari' garage with multiple stickers advertising this fact meant to be splattered around, including every european flag going I think (which fits nicely along the side of the lift tower) but alas you only need to use the ones you see fit as they come on a seperate sheet to be added by you (personal touch and all that :)) **It is a multi storey garage with 3 floors, with a lift taking you up to which floor you chose and a nice and fast windy road for bringing you back down again (great fun!) You place your chosen car on the lift base then on lifting the lift, as you reach each floor there is a barrier which lifts to give you the opportunity to 'drive' onto whichever one you fancy! If you chose to be 'lifted' to the top floor the lift flips up and your car gets shooted down the top ramp and straight down the 'windy road' or (now this is the fun bit!) there is a barrier (or switching gate) that can be pushed up (through the underside) which (again if you go to the top floor) sends you shooting down the speed ramp, this feature has an adjustable starting gate to line up the cars ready to race (complete with starting flags) and also an adjustable jump lever based at the bottom for either a smooth run down or as a jump obviously! **Now for the bottom floor, you have a mechanics sticker to give the feel of a workshop, there are barriers (2 of) and a handy petrol pump if your car seems to slowing down! Placed very cleverly under the second floor/above the bottom floor is a sliding draw where there are the (supplied) cars (a red one and a black one) and also a pick-up truck. These are of course Ferrari cars and are of the chunky kind, ideal for little hands! but it is also a garage suitable for all matchbox/hotwheels or most die-cast cars. On the box when you buy this garage it is stated only suitable for ages 3 and above, as my son was only two we thought very carefully about buying this particular garage, luckily my son is very sensible, and although I have yet to find any tiny parts that could be a hazard for choking etc that doesn't mean that there aren't any and I am always there playing with or supervising while he is playing with or around it. All in all I think this is a great present for any occasion, although quite expensive at the time I think it's more than worth it and will last for many many years and is very sturdy, it has withstood my eldest son standing on it to look through the window for starters and he's almost 4! Like I have mentioned before you certainly need the room in your house for one of these as you can't exactly fold it away when your not playing with it, but if y ou have then I would highly recommend it, for hours of fun, young and old!

My mother purchased this for the twins when they were 17 months old. They use it to sit on at this time (they are now 20 months). The garage is large and took awhile to put together. When we put it together my daughter climbed on it and kept wiggling and adjusting the way she was sitting on it. We discovered that she thought the ramp was a slide and she was trying to slide down it. The garage has several different parts to it. First it has three levels and an elevator to each level. The top of the elevator shaft has markings for a helicopter landing pad. There is a ramp that goes straight down from the top level. It has a knob that you turn to lift a small section of the ramp that allows cars to come down the ramp from the second level. It has a bar like the toll booth bars) that can be lifted to allow cars to pass. It also has a car wash with little rags attached to a bar that the kids can turn. There is a "lift" that allows the car to be lifted to the second level. It has a gas pump, pay phone and little balconies off the elevator on each level. It has stickers to add which makes it look a little like a garage. We received two people with it. There is also a section for batteries I will have to get back to you on what type of sound it makes as we are putting off installing the batteries. The garage really is for older kids mine just tip it over and stand or sit on it. They do enjoy turning the knobs and pushing buttons. They also make the people dance on the helicopter pad. I believe they will get a lot of use from it as the stress tests they are performing on it are being passed with flying colors. Nothing has broken, however little pieces have had to be put back on when they were knocked off. The pieces are not small enough to choke on though. When the kids get older and start actually playing with it I will update this review. I would recommend this toy but stress it is for older kids.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Fisher Prices’ Big action garage is one of the best children’s garages I have seen on the market to date. Although a little pricey for a child’s toy at £54.97 (toysRus Nov 2000)it really is money well spent to see the enjoyment on childrens faces, when they see their new toy! The garage comes in a huge box, so you would need to go by car or taxi, preferably with someone to help you carry it. It was certainly no fun trying to manhandle this on my own! Home assembly is required, this was a little daunting as the instructions came in an A4 booklet! However it took roughly half an hour to assemble and was relatively easy once I got going, honest! Everything you require is included in the pack, with the exception of a Phillips screwdriver. The garage itself comprises of a ground floor level with barriers and petrol pumps, the second floor level leads onto the long spiral ramp as does the top floor level. There are two ramps, a speed ramp, with a jump at the end, which cars ‘fly’ off, ( they really do....usually straight at the cat!) this ramp also doubles as a slide for James, with he thinks is great, despite my pleadings!!! although I doubt this would be recommended, and a corkscrew ramp which leads from the top to the bottom. There is a manually operated lift which tips the cars through the barriers and down onto the ramps, as well as a handy storage drawer supposedly for cars but James has other ideas..........soggy chips and the like! The garage comes with 2 cars and a tow truck as well as an extension piece for ‘hotwheels’ cars, handy as Mcd’s were giving them away with their happy meals not to long ago. I am amazed at how sturdy the whole set up is, all the signs/barriers snap into place and are extremely difficult to remove once in place, so little danger of younger children swallowing them. I t is also able to take a lot of weight, I know of an adult wh o has stood on it to hang a picture and it held out, although again I doubt the manufacturers would pay out in the event of an accident! It is also very heavy and therefore a child will not tip it over. I must admit on first opening the box, James was more interested in climbing into it, than what the box contained. A word of advice here DO NOT attempt to assemble the garage with children or animals in the room! It is very frustrating to have to retrieve screws and bits and pieces from under chairs, in the fish tank etc. All in all an excellant buy, once we got rid of the box! James plays with his garage for hours on end, with maximum enjoyment, I have been known to have a sneaky play too and it is lots of fun! You can often pick up these garages from car boot sales or pfrom the ad mag for a lower price and still in good condition.
