Lovely looking and well made garage

My 3 year old son is absolutely car mad so I knew exactly what I wanted to get him for his birthday. His very own garage! After looking through all the flimsy looking plastic ones with poor reviews about parts snapping on the day of purchase I decided to opt for this wooden one. It was very simple to assemble and took just a few minutes. It is extremely well made, even though my son runs his cars on it daily there is still not one mark or scratch on it. There is a helipad with a working lift underneath it. The string does sometimes get stuck on this and I have to spend a while sorting it out but it's very easy for young children to operate, just by turning a wooden wheel next to the lift. There is 2 ramps, these just connect by placing a ridge underneath the ramp onto some string, I do think it would be better if they clipped into place as they are forever coming off. Lots of parking spaces and plenty of room for races, as my son loves racing his cars. The garage comes with just 1 car and 2 petrol pumps so I bought an extra pack of wooden vehicles and now he has a lovely collection. I love the wooden feel of this garage, I much prefer it over any plastic ones I've seen and it seems like it's built to last. I paid £20 for this rather than the original price of £50 as it was half price and I had an extra code to use on top but I would quite happily pay £50 as my son get hours of enjoyment from this.

        really nice garage.

My son, Kai, had some money for his 6th birthday and had decided to buy a garage with it. We looked on the early learning centre website and found this wooden garage on offer for £25! When it arrived it was very easy and quick to put together, and looks really solid & strong. It's nice and bright and looks very good quality. This garage has 3 levels, 2 ramps, a helipad on top and a lift, to work the lift you just turn a little wheel up and down, its very easy to use, my 2 year old also plays with it and can manage to do it easily. The garage has parking bays painted onto it, including disabled bays too. It comes with 1 wooden car , a wooden helicopter and 2 wooden petrol pumps. Kai really likes his garage and has played with it a lot, he has a lot of wooden trains and track and he now includes the garage as part of the huge train tracks he builds! He has quite a few matchbox type cars which fit well on the garage and in the lift. The ramps do come off easily, which I've seen a lot of people mention, but it's not really a problem for us. This is a well made and sturdy toy, my daughter is quite rough when she plays with it, and has sat on it a few times and bashed the cars up and down the ramps, but it still looks as good as new! I think it will last for years to come. I'm not sure if I would pay £50 for it but it's a great bargain for £25!

A perfect toy for any car lover!! I would recommend this product to a friend!

My son was bought this garage for Christmas. It had been bought half price for £25 which I think is fantastic value for money for a well made, sturdy wooden toy. When it arrived it was flat packed, and there were easy to follow instructions in the box. It took me around 30 minutes to assemble. Also included in the box was a cute wooden helicopter and a little wooden car, plus 2 petrol pumps. There are 3 levels to the garage, plus a lift with access to all levels, and removable ramps between levels. When I say removable, I really mean it! They fall off all the time, and this can be quite annoying. They are very easy to put back on though. There is also a helicopter landing pad on top of the lift. My little boy loves to take this off and then throw all his smaller toys into the lift shaft. I'm considering glueing both the ramps and the helicopter pad, as it is quite annoying having to re-attach these several times a day. The lift is operated by a pully system, with a wheel at the top to bring it up or down. My little boy is 20 months, and manages to operate this by himself quite easily. Most of the cars he already has (matchbox size) fit nicely in the lift (apart from when he tries to put 4 or 5 in at the same time!). The garage is very sturdy. My son has started to sit on the edge of it, and has climbed up onto it to stand too. It takes his weight well, showing that it is very solidly made. It feels and looks a lot more expensive than it was!

Lots of fun time that will last for many years!!

Having spent the last six months looking after my youngest grandson 2 days a week, it has given me time to play and enjoy some of his toys. So when my other grandson comes to visit for a few days I get to experience playing with toys that are completely different from what I'm used to. One being the Early Learning Centre Wooden Garage that we bought him for Christmas. This is a lovely traditional wooden garage, it is very easy to assemble which is on three levels. There is a lift that is operated by turning the handle to wind it up or down, which moves very smoothly with no juddering. There are two ramps for the cars to go down and eveything is marked out very clearly in a one way system. All the parking bays are clearly marked and to make it even more realistic it even has disabled parking bays on each floor, which I think is a good way to introduce children in to thinking about people with disabilties. As this can be explained as to why they have to park near to the lifts. On the top of the garage there is a helipad which comes complete with a wooden helicopter, you also receive one wooden car as well. The only thing I would say is that when I purchased this garage I tried to buy some more wooden cars, as I was trying to keep it in style with the garage and felt that the metal ones just wouldn't look right. Unfortunately they didn't have any others for sale, so I was a little disappointed that I couldn't give my grandson any more cars for him to play with as one seemed a bit boring to me. The wood that this garage is made from is very qood quality and very strong as I have on more that one occasion seen my grandson (who is now 2 years old) sitting on the top of it quite happily looking at a book!!! The flooring on this garage is painted black which makes the markings stand out in white. The lift shaft is painted a nice bright red. There are also 2 petrol pumps for children to pretend to get petrol like mum and dad. My grandson has had hours of fun with this toy and I'm very glad that I purchased it. When I got this garage just before last Christmas it was on special offer at half price £25.00, which I think was an excellent price. I do believe this toy will last for many years to come, because of it's quality. Early Learning do say that it is unsuitable for under 36 months due to small parts, but my Grandson got this at 21 months and I didn't feel that is was unsafe for him to use, as I would never give him something that might harm him. The main reason I purchased this garage was because he was cars mad at that time and still is. The measurements of this garage are; H38.5cm x W13cm x D13cm approx. Weight: 3.3kg I would strongly recommend anyone who is looking for a sturdy, traditional wooden toy to purchase this garage!!

A nice alternative to a plastic garage

My 2-year-old was given this as a gift because he is mad about cars and was getting towards the upper age range for the ELC Whizz-Around garage. I'm a big fan of ELC's range of wooden toys, it makes a nice change from the usual brightly-coloured plastic, so I was glad he got this one rather than the Big City garage. It has a nice retro look to it and is quite sturdy - he's tried to stand on it to reach things a couple of times, and it hasn't collapsed under the weight! He is a little on the young side as it is for ages 3 and up, whereas he is only two-and-a-half, so he doesn't get the most out of it yet. His play is limited to running cars up and down the ramps and getting Wonder Pets figures stuck in the lift, but he seems to have fun with it anyway! Looking at the ELC website, they have improved it since the end of last year, and it now has petrol pumps, whereas before it just had a petrol station-type sign and some writing on the lower level that says 'Petrol Pump'! It also now comes with a vehicle and a helicopter, and the helipad is on top of the lift rather than on the side. The only gripe I have with this product is that the ramps are held on by means of a groove in the underside of the ramp which fits onto a piece of string attached to the garage. Not only does this mean that the ramps come off easily, but the string is easy to break and not very easy to fix. Overall though, it is a good product which should last well.

          Disadvantages

A fantastic wooden garage, great for all ages.

We have this garage but it is not the same as the one pictured. We have the original wooden one which is not coloured, it is just naturally wood with blue lines for parking spaces. We bought this for my sons christmas when he was 2. It was really easy to put together and all the pieces were well made. All the pieces have little holes or pieces of dowling so they just push together. The ramps fit on to really tort string and are very stabble but are also removable. The lift in this is really good. You put the car in at the bottom and them wind the hand on the top and as the string coils are the top the lift goes up and the car can come out of the other side of the lift. At the top there is also a helipad. There is also a petrol pump and sign included. I was disappointed that we didnt get any vehicles with this set but we bought some of the wooden cars to go with it. The emergency vehicles are really good, some have flashing lights annd make sounds too. My sons favourite has always been the magnetic car and caravan set. You could use any kind of car with this garage but bigger ones get stuck in the lift. After a while we had to glue some of the dowling in place as it started to fall apart with use, this could be classed as excessive use as it has been played with nearly everyday for the past 3 years and has moved house twice. A fantastic wooden toy.

          A superb garage toy

My Harry is absolutely car mad, he can name almost any car that he sees on the road, and has a huge box of Matchbox cars that come out every day without fail. So when it came to choosing a 3rd birthday for him, my Mum and Dad thought that they had a simple job because they wanted to get him a garage, somewhere he could use his precious cars every day. After a lot of searching, they decided upon this wooden garage from Early Learning Centre and had it sent to my house in time for Harry's birthday. The morning of his birthday came, and the huge gasp that came from Harry when he saw his garage said it all, and it's quickly become his favourite toy ever! The ELC Wooden Garage is a toy aimed at children from the age of 3 and upwards due to some small parts. It is available both in-store and online from the ELC website, so is pretty easy to come by. The garage came flat-packed in a rather large cardboard box but was not too heavy which was good. The box had a huge picture of the garage on the front of it so I had to quickly hide it in my bedroom so Harry wouldn't see it before his special day. I had a scan in the box to check everything was there and then left it until the evening before, too risky to do before that! So when it came to the night before, I set everything out on the carpet, luckily not too many bits to tackle, and was sure I could do it myself. Wrong. It looked easy, the instruction leaflet was simple enough with step by step guides on what went were, and how to fix it in. The first thing to attach was the tall lift column to the base, and thats where I came unstuck. It was ridiculously hard to screw the screws into the holes because a) the column wasn't steady and there was no easy way of holding it and b) the screw seemed too big for the hole! I had to call daddy2harry to help, and even he struggled to do them up tightly enough to make it secure. Eventually he managed it, but it did take 2 of us to fasten the remaining floors of the garage because of small parts and fiddly catches, but when it was done, it looked fantastic and we just knew Harry would love it. We set it up with lots of his cars (none are supplied but Matchbox type cars fit perfectly) on all floors and put it down ready for the morning. Well, his face said it all when he came down, he was so pleased to finally have a garage of his own! It does look so brilliant, and ELC have clearly thought about what a child wants from a garage. This garage features a 4 "storey" wind-up lift that is manually done by the child using a knob on the side, which winds the lift up and down according to which way you turn it. There are doorways to the lift on each floor of the garage so your child can pop the cars in and out easily. Harry likes to sit them in and on top of the lift car, and loves winding it up and down, and finds it easy doing so as well. The lift is definitely the best feature of the whole thing, and the novelty of it is very appealable to young children. As you can see from the picture, the garage has 4 different levels for cars to drive up and down on, and the 4th level is a helipad for your rescue helicopter to land on if you own one! There are removable ramps up to each of the levels, but there is a minor problem with these. They are slotted on using a bit of string on the garage itself, and a slot of the underside of the ramp, so if they are knocked they fall off quickly and easily, but Harry soon figured out the knack of getting them back on. It's a shame they didn't make them permanently fixable but I suppose it saves breakage this way. The ramps have road markings so do look authentic, and the other levels have parking spaces and roundabouts marked on too, so attention to detail has been paid with this product. There is a small "shop" at the back corner of the garage base, a red box with a doorway which isn't too well situated if I'm honest. Your child will generally sit in front of the garage which is where the entrance to the lift is and the first ramp too, but the shop doorway is at the back of the garage so can often be ignored. As well as these things, the garage has a sign that can be put on in front of the shop that has "Petrol", "Shop" and a few other things on it which is a nice touch. There are also 2 wooden petrol pumps that aren't stuck down so can be put down or used in anyway that a child wants to do so. Harry loves these and loves filling up his cars with the petrol. It's little details like these that make this product fantastic, and such good value for money. Aesthetically too, it's great looking with a bright red lift and shop, dark grey roads and light beech wood trim so it does look expensive and nice to look at. As for durability, we are very impressed with it so far. Harry plays with this every single day without fail, and for sustained periods of time as well. It hasn't shown any signs of wear and tear yet but I must admit he treats it well because it's a prized possession. We always store it safely away at night but he treats it well and loves to polish it with a baby wipe too, bless him! The helipad level isn't particularly secure and I feel if Harry were to lean on it with a bit of force, it might snap but we've warned him to be careful and he has been so far. The levels are set with wooden posts so are secure, the ramps come off easily to avoid breakage and the lift is sturdy with a thick string to elevate and lower it with a sturdy wooden knob too. It seems robust, and being wooden, we expect it last a lot longer than anything made of plastic would do. My parents are thrilled with their present choice for Harry, and its probably been his favourite present so far. As I said, he plays with every day and gets so much fun from playing with it and his cars. It makes me smile so much to see him and his Daddy playing together with it, and they do every evening and Harry has so much fun with it. Yes, it is quite high-priced but for the amount of use Harry's got it, its worth every penny and I expect it to last for much longer as well. If your child loves car, I can definitely recommend this product to you because its just fab. There are lots of things to do on it, its been thought through well by the creators and children will be excited by touches such as the working lift and petrol pumps! It's a super product, great value for money and comes recommended from both me and Harry! Current selling price (April 2009) is £45, but for the enjoyment Harry has had, and still gets daily makes it worth every penny! Highly recommended for young petrol-heads!
