      Great buy

My son got this for christmas 3 years ago when he had just turned 1. We wanted something cheap and cheerful as we weren't sure whether he would like it, play on it or even get the hang of it. He nailed it nearly straight away despite his age.

He loves the fact he can steer the car himself and is constantly zooming around my kitchen along with his teddies! The seat opens up and he puts everything in there, which is great for the imagination. The turn dials below the steering wheel, although aimed for younger kids, are great fun too and each one has a different sound.

There are stickers on the car which add great and realisitc detail, which are all still intact unlike other toys which would have peeled off in a few days. There is also a wedge on the back of the toy to prevent it from tipping - a must when you have a boisterous toddler! And of course the car has a fun horn on the steering wheel! Whats a car without a horn?

      An occasionally used toy

This is a review of a sit n ride car my daughter was bought for her first birthday back in December. It's from the Disney Cars movie, the character Lightning Mcqueen and is bright red.

      Price and availability
My MIL bought the car from ASDA when it was on offer but the current price on the website it £15 for this car which is a fair price but I certainly don't think it is worth any more than this.

      Use
At the time of receiving, she wasn't yet walking so we were keen to see if she would use the back spoiler bar to help her keep her balance. She didn't really do much pushing and walking but the car still gets used a lot in play (and she is walking well now!).

      First impressions
My first impressions were that this toy was really meant for a boy, but I'm sure that doesn't really matter and at the age of one, children don't really care who toys are meant for as long as they can play with them!

      Features
The car features a high rear spoiler which is good for balance and walking and pushing. It also helps to keep her bottom on the seat and prevents falling backwards. At the front of the car is a steering wheel with a little hooter which makes a quiet squeaky noise when pushed. It's not really irritating though.

      Best bit
Perhaps the most used feature of the car is the seat which is also a trunk and hides a small compartment where my daughter keeps the toy cats that came on her birthday cake. She regularly goes to get them but always puts them back in there after playing with them! I can't explain why but we just accept that 'they live there' now.

      Straight lines only
My one disappointment with this toy is that the steering mechanism is not actually accountable to the wheels. That is, the wheels don't turn so it only does straight lines! We have played on other toy cars that will turn corners so I am not sure why this doesn't only that it makes me think it is a cheap toy car.

      What does it do?
The car is good for sitting and scooting on but my daughter doesn't do much of that. She will sit on the car and watch TV for 5 minutes if there is something good on.

      Not our favourite toy
All in all, this toy sits in the corner of our living room and is played on or with sometimes. It doesn't fold down or go any smaller and is one big chunk of plastic. I will probably demote it to the garden as an outdoor toy some time soon as I am getting pretty tired of looking at it!

      Final thoughts
This was a nice gift to receive but I can't help but think we might have had more use out of it if we had a boy instead of a girl. Our daughter has a pink car too that fulfils a similar role and also another second hand car at her other grandparent's house and all three are more or less equally ignored unless play is initiated with the toy.
