      Disadvantages

      Big noise, small in size and price

      Background

      This was part of a gift along with my new I pod for Christmas, so I don't know the price paid, though it seems to be around £10-20 on various sites, less on Ebay. I was not convinced of my need for a speaker (who else wants to hear my taste in music?!), but on first try I was sold with a capital S.

      The product

      Prior to use it is a small round speaker, approximately 5 cm in diameter by 3 cm tall. The clever bit, is that in order to release the sound fully it unscrews (as in the picture) to expose the speaker adding about 1 cm to the height. ***geek alert*** apparently this creates a vacuum to mimic the performance of a sub-woofer enhancing the bass by 10 times what you would expect for a product this size.

      It has a standard headphone jack (3.5mm) to plug into almost any MP3, tablet or computer, and it comes with a standard USB connector to charge, so it truly is portable, fitting nicely into a pocket or bag.

      There is a small on / off switch (to preserve battery life) on the side and a small volume dial opposite.

      The build is solid and fells reasonably weighty for its size, the switch and dial are plastic but feel fine.

      In use

      Battery life is excellent, the packaging states 11 hours. I don't use it continuously for this period of time, but this is about right - it may even be a bit more. Full charge is achieved from a standard USB port in around 2 hours - brilliant!

      The headphone jack plugs into your media easily and firmly, not a bit of give when tried on I Pod, tablet, PC and generic MP3 player.

      The sound - in one word, fabulous! Particularly when you take into account the size and price of the product. Given the size, I expected it to be a bit tinny, yet at all volumes the sound is crystal clear - you really do hear what is recorded on your media.

      At low volume it provides great background music, at mid range it fills the room (well a smallish one anyway!) and at high volume, the bass comes through well, and the key but, there is absolutely no distortion at all, so i guess the sub-woofer bit works well - it does for me anyway! I have shown this to other people and they could not believe the sound from this speaker.

      Recommendation

      100% yes - I would not be without it. You cannot beat the performance measured against price, and the size makes it oh so convenient.

      Also on Ciao - same user name

        Definitely best at this end of the market

        This was bought to use with my tablet. I enjoy watching YouTube musc videos but the quality f my tab let's speakers is very poor. This was about £14 so not the cheapest on the market but certainly very reasonable. In my opinion, you get really great value for money with this product.

        The sound quality is excellent or such a small speaker. I would go as far as to say that if I lived in a very small flat, I would probably be happy to use this as my main speaker. I know that is quite a claim but it is true. The volume can go quite high. Probably not loud enough for a party of course but loud enough for normal every day use. There is good depth to the tone and no tinny sound whatsoever.

        There is n internal battery and you charge it via USB. Another great selling point from my perspective, what with the plethora of chargers you can end up with! The battery life between charges is ten hours or o. It says 11 hours on the box - just checked! And it is probably exactly that! You can't ask for more from such a cheap and tiny speaker.

        Highly recommended!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        A nice PC speaker, which should not be turned up too much.

        I think the most important and the greatest feature about this speaker is its size. It's so tiny! So you can use it on your desktop computer/laptop or when you are outside (or just in another room for a while). It's portable and that's great! Besides, the audio cable is retractable so there's no annoying cable when you are carrying arround the speaker.
        The portability is also due to the fact that the speaker has got a built-in battery so you don't need a power supply every time you want to listen to music (e.g. outside, as I wrote). You can charge the battery with a USB cable.
        As to the sound I can say that I was surprised by it. I thought this speaker sounds not that great (due to the feature that it is tiny and really cheap), but good enough to listen to music outside. But actually, this thing has a great sound, even if you turn the volume up a bit. This is great!
        But one problem that every PC speaker shows is that when you turn the volume up until it's really loud, the sound develops overdrive and sounds really bad, because the tiny speaker and its processing is not made for high volumes.

        But always remember that this is supposed to be a PC speaker, it will never substitute a pair of nice HiFi-speakers. But it does its job as a PC speaker quite decent.

        Advantages

        • Reliability

        Disadvantages

        Surely the best value for money portable speaker on the market!

        *What is it?*

        The X-Mi Mini II is a small portable speaker. It's truly tiny at about 7cm wide and tall however it boasts a secret weapon in that it pops open a further 4/5cm to increase the base resonance of the music. It comes with a USB charging cable so can be charged from a laptop or mains with the use of a plug with USB port (most modern phone chargers have such a thing). No need to fiddle around with replacing batteries! It has a short cable with audio jack for use with a phone or mp3 player.

        *Price and Colour*

        The X-MI mini II costs between £15 and £18 on amazon depending on colour. The range of colours available are black, silver, white, green, orange, purple, blue and pink, a colour to suit anyone! Most of the colours have a lovely metallic effect too which adds to the stylishness of the little speaker. The top of the speaker also has a contrasting speaker component which looks edgy and modern which adds a little flavour to the design. I have an orange speaker and it really stands out, I chose orange so I can spot it in my bag or in my room quickly when looking for it. For £16 it is one of the best audio purchases I have made! Doesn't get much better than that in my opinion.

        *Sound*

        For the size and price of the speaker the sound is remarkably good. I was blown away initially by the loudness of such a compact speaker. The lengthening of the speaker also adds bass and volume to the sound however even with it closed the sound is loud enough as well as high quality. The sound quality is up there with any portable speaker I have, some of which are much more cumbersome than this very portable speaker.

        *Advantages*

        The battery life is outstanding on the X-Mi Mini II, I get at least 8 hours of playing through one single charge The charging time is about 45 minutes from flat to full which is a healthy time for such long playback.

        The durability of the X-Mi is also something I've been impressed with. The rounded design makes it very shockproof if you were to drop it like I occasionally do. Mine has very little marks on it from being fairly battered over time!

        *Conclusion*

        Simply a fantastic little speaker! Not only is it very well priced, the sound quality and volume is remarkably good. Very portable it can be used on holiday, down the park, in your room or garden. It's light and fits in any bag. I would recommend this speaker to anyone and everyone, huge 5 stars for a tiny star!

          Advantages

          • Reliability

          Disadvantages

          Super duper portable sound.

          This is one of many little portable speakers that we own now that my daughter has become interested in gadgets. We have a range of items requiring external speakers if you are to enjoy them properly including the PSP, a tablet, mp3 etc and these little things are very handy and small.

          There are many of these types of pop up speaker available, some sell for around £4. This is pricier than some but this is very well made. This little pop up speaker gives out a lot of noise for such a small device. I spend most of my online time on a laptop and these are not known for their great speakers so I bought myself a decent set for music. My daughter then wanted to pinch these to play her games on the tablet (equally not blessed in the volume department) so this is where this little speaker comes into its own and saves a lot of hassle. Another great thing about this is the portability, it can fit anywhere. It means that I can listen to radio from my phone in the bath tub and enjoy it rather than grimace at the tinny phone speakers.

          THE SPEAKER:

          The plastic casing of the speaker twists to open and close. Once open the main body is like a little concertina and the top half stays up on its own. The casing has a soft feel and is strong. The device is very user friendly with a simple on/off switch on the side and a status light which is a gorgeous blue colour. On the base you will find the little cable which is your main device jack (MP3, iPad, tablet, PSP etc) and this has a little channel which is there for you to tuck the cable away after use, stopping it from getting damaged. The X-mini is comes with a little fabric bag to keep it dust free and is available in a variety of colours.

          CHARGING:

          The X-mini has an internal rechargeable battery which is charged via a usb port, so can be charged on a pc/laptop, or using a plug socket with a usb connector. The actual useage that you get from one charge is stated at being 11 hours which seems about right for us. The only downside (and I realise that this is me being really demanding) is that when it runs out you have to recharge via usb. Annoying when out and about (which is why we have a few) and I would love a mini-speaker that could also take batteries. Somebody please invent one.

          SOUND QUALITY:

          One would expect something so small to be tinny and not loud enough to make any kind of impact. This assumption would be wrong. This little thing is surprisingly loud and to be honest I would not have believed that a tiny rechargeable speaker could emit such a noise had I not bought a cheaper one before this one. It is more than loud enough for gaming and listening to music around the home although obviously it will not be loud enough to annoy the neighbours, I have a nice separates system for that.
          It enhances the sound of the PSP both in volume and also in depth, making the game much more engrossing. It is also great for the beach and garden on a sunny day...

          CHAINING:

          One amazing feature of this little thing is "chaining" it. I am not talking about smoking here either, chaining is connecting several speakers in a line to increase depth of sound. This works well and I have managed to do it with speakers of several different makes so long as they all have a 3.5 jack which they nearly all do. My daughter also had great fun chaining her speakers with her friends which resulted in a chain comprising many colours and a lot of noise.

          QUALITY:

          We have had this now for several months and it has already had a hard life! Our speaker has been lugged all over the house and outdoors and has survived sand and the odd dribble of sploshed drink. So far we have had no problems at all and it works brilliantly for what we need. The wiring has stayed true and does not crackle annoyingly when in play or when connected. It would seem that this is a very well made little portable speaker.

          SUMMARY:

          This is an excellent little speaker for all ages. it can be used for business use or entertainment and fits every device with a 3.5 jack. It fits snugly in my daughter's PSP bag alongside the console and several other charged mini speakers. I recommend this totally, it is especially good for kids or teens who like portable devices.

          We paid £13 for ours including postage from Amazon but the prices change all the time so shop around.

            ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Cheap, cheerful, great for on the move!

            With its super low price with a whole range of colours to choose from this is something you can't not own!

            This portable speaker is great for people on the move who need to give presentations containing sound files or if you just want to chill out with your friends listening to music without using terrible phone speakers or crummy headphones.

            I know that most people will be thinking when looking at this product, 'I bet the sound quality is awful and tinny.' but it's not! It may not be production studio quality but these portable speakers are a great piece of kit that can fit in any bag or just to be slipped away to be used where appropriate.

            The speakers are powered from its internal battery pack and can easily be charged with the included USB cable. battery life is good however anything can be improved on, right? i found that the charge in it usually lasts around 10 hours which may be a problem if your travelling a lot without electricity.

            This little speaker set-up will easily please a small room of people but dont expect low basses and superb sounds. I really enjoy this piece of kit and at such a low price you cant go wrong at all!

            Connectors are all good and fit into the standard 3mm jack in most phones and MP3 players, as well as laptop and desktops.

            Big sound from a tiny speaker!

            I bought my daughter a Hello Kitty car DVD player in September time as we were going on a long drive and I wanted to keep her amused for the journey. I hadn't really tested the DVD player before we went and the volume we found was too low particularly when we were on the motorway. I looked around for a little speaker to enhance the sound and this speaker caught my eye on Amazon as there was a wide choice of colours. I settled on white, not that it makes any difference to a 2 year old. The speaker cost me £17.99.

            The speaker comes in a small tub, inside there is also a micro usb cable and a small case to keep the speaker protected.

            The speaker is a compact size it is like a small orange. The wire is hidden inside the bottom of the speaker it folds neatly away. The wire is very small, it would work well if it were being used with an iPod or something similar, as my intention for using this was in the car I bought an extension cable to go from the DVD player to the speaker which would enable me to tuck the speaker away behind my daughter's car seat so she wouldn't play with it.

            I am not going to run through the technical spec of these speakers as it is something I really don't understand! I just read the reviews on Amazon before purchasing and as I am not a technological person I simply picked the best item for my needs.

            The speaker is rechargable using the micro usb, as I have a wall adapter I plug it into the wall it takes an hour or so to charge. Once the speaker is charged it will last up to 11 hours. The speaker can be opened up by twisting it to create a better sound. The first time we used this I was amazed at how good the sound quality was, the bass is perfect and it really enhances my daughters DVD player. The speaker has an on/off switch located next to the volume so to preserve the battery we turn it off and place it back in the pouch when not in use. I only need to use the speaker on a low setting for the DVD player to get a good sound, the bonus is that the sound can still be controlled through the DVD player for which I have a remote control making it easy for me to adjust the volume while we are on the go (not while driving).

            I would thoroughly recommend this speaker, it is brilliant, I am amazed that such a small item can produce such a good sound. I have also used this with my iPod while in the house and I am very impressed. The battery life is decent too, I think I managed about 10 hours last time which is good considering I turn it right up when I attach it to the iPod.

            This is a brilliant little speaker I would give it 5 out of 5.

            Brilliant value for money and brilliant sound for its size.

            I asked for these xmini speakers for Christmas (they were £11 on Play.com at the time), and they were certainly the most useful present that Santa got me this time! The speakers may look small, but as soon as you turn them on you discover they are both louder and with a higher quality of sound than you'd have guessed. I was really surprised when I first tried them out.

            So why did I want to get xmini speakers?

            I'm a music nerd, and like to play music more or less constantly. However it's annoying to have to unplug and move a whole speaker system if I change rooms. Besides sometimes I want to listen to music where there aren't any plugs anyway (my garden, my bathroom, camping with friends etc). Before I had my xmini speakers this meant I would put up with listening to low quality sound out of my laptop, straining my ears, then sometimes deciding not to bother. Now I have a solution... The x-mini is so small and the battery life is great, so I can just plug it into my laptop or mp3 player wherever I may be. For something that takes up so little space to bring along in a bag, the xmini really does make a difference.

            Taking a closer look at the xmini:

            Functionality:
            Holding the top and base of the xmini, the speaker can be opened or closed with a simple twist motion in opposite directions. To turn the speaker on there is a simple on/off switch, and the on status is indicated by a blue light. This helps to remind you to turn it off when not in use, it also glows brighter when the xmini needs charging. The xmini has a cord near the base wich connects into a pc/laptop/mp3 player etc. When not in use this cord is tucked away neatly within the base of the speaker. The xmini is charged via a usb port, so can be charged on a pc/laptop, or using a plug socket with a usb connector. It says 11 playback per charge, but I seem to get far more in reality. It's great not having to use batteries, as I did with a portable speaker years back.

            Sound:
            As I've mentioned before, the xmini is much louder than you'd expect for something of its size, which is fantastic when you are packing light. I generally find it to be loud enough for everyday use, although it cannot replace the potential of a full speaker system for volume and sound quality. It may not be suitable for noisy events or some outdoor use, but it still earns its place through its portability, and so is a great compliment to a full scale speaker system. A great feature is that you can plug one xmini into another, chaining them together to increase the volme. I have tried this with a friend and it works well, particularly if you are going to be out of doors, where it is harder for speaker sound to be heard.

            Appearance:
            The xmini is available in a range of colours although I own the standard black edition myself. It is smart looking, and also comes with a small material carry bag to keep it clean on its travels.

            Reliability:
            So far I have had mine for 8 months with no problems whatsoever.

            Overall:
            I have no regrets choosing the xmini speaker. There have been so many times when I've been pleased to have it, and when I set off on my round the world trip next month it is coming with me. At the current retail price, it is great value, and I would definitely recommend it.

            Excellent travel speakers

            Thankyou dooyoo members! I was after a pair (or you can go singular) of mini speakers to take on holiday and after reading various reviews I thought that I would give these a go.

            The criteria for selection was they had to be compact, cheap in case they got lost/broke in transit and have decent sound quality. If possible I wanted them to be powered by my iphone so no batteries to replace. These speakers achieve this and then some.

            Do not be fooled by the cost. I paid £25 for 2 from Amazon. You can use just one and I must admit the sound quality does not suffer if you do as they still sound stereo. You can also link more of them together if you wish.

            They are pretty robust made of good quality plastics and when not in use each unit screws together to reduce the size even more and make stowing away even easier (in a cloth bag that is supplied). Size wise they are bigger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball about half way between

            When being used they plug into the headphone jack and as I say more can be connected together again buy using a headphone jack plugging into each unit ie daisy-chaining.

            They also come with a USB connector so thay can be used with a laptop for example.

            low-cost, durable loud little speaker with a sexy modern design!

            This is my first Xmini product and I was bought it for my birthday from some friends. I believe it was around £10. Mine comes in red which is my favourite colour so it was nice that they got the choice of colours to personalise it to the person a bit. It really is very small and I always just whack it in my handbag to take to the park or to picnics. I even use it in bed for listening to audio books. It plugs in to every device I have - my iphone, ipod, laptops. The sound quality is very good and the volume is very loud for such a tiny thing. I'm amazed at whoever designed it!

            When you aren't using it its small and round and closed and the wire fits nicely in the little grooce underneath so it packs away really neatly. when you want to use it you pull the wire out, twist the middle of the speaker so it pops out like in the photo on this page. This is presumably to allow for a more bass-y sound. The top of the speake itself is quite fragile but it is protected by that plastic part which says Xmini. I have taken this on holiday to the beach and it has, unfortunately, been covered in sand many times but it still works good ad new! If my friends and I bring ours out together then we plug one in to an ipod then plug them all in to each other like a dasiy-chain of speakers to get even more loud and surround sound!

            Really good and practical speaker, I don't know what I did before having it!!

            Disadvantages

            Definitely worth purchasing one of these speakers!

            The X-Mini II is the first X-Mini product I have ever bought. But honestly, I was surprised of the sound quality/loudness from the first song I played.
            I bought it as I wanted to play a bit of music while out and about with my friends, it has already served us well and I've only had it for around 2 months.

            So, how does it arrive?
            The X-Mini II arrives in a small box, containing the speaker itself, the USB charging cable and a small instruction booklet (which to be honest, you don't need). They are so kind, they even include a nice small pouch for you to keep the speaker in when on the move.

            The speaker itself is very portable. It's about the size of a golf ball, tiny. But the sound you get from this tiny speaker, is amazing! You have two options with this speaker, open or closed. Having it open will give you a louder sound, with more bass to it. All you have to do to open it is twist the speaker capsule.

            You charge the speaker with the same cable that is used to plug it into your MP3/iPod. When charging you have small LED indicator lights. Red means it's charging. Blue when it is charged/when the speaker is on.
            The X-Mini II speaker gives around 10/11 hours of continuous playback from one single charge. The battery is only 5V, so the charge time isn't that long. Around 2 to 3 hours, which is pretty impressive for the amount of time you get out of it!

            There is a very small mini jack attached to the speaker, allowing it to connect to virtually any music playing device. This cable is very small, but as previously stated the USB cable also has a jack allowing a longer cable.

            Overall, great speaker for how small it is. Definitely worth the investment.

              Amazing

              I have been using X mini products for a few years now, this X mini II being the first one that I have used.

              I got it as a Christmas present from my Aunt and Uncle and was immediately excited as I knew a friend who had the speaker and used it a lot.
              What you get-
              In the box you get the small capsule speaker, a small instruction booklet with very clear diagrams, and a USB charging cable with an added mini jack that can be used to connect to the speaker in place of the jack already attached to the speaker. A small pouch is also included for keeping the speaker in.

              Although the diagrams on the instructions are very clear, the writing is quite small and can be difficult to read. Not much of an issue though as it is really very clear how to use the product.

              The pouch included is good if you are taking the speaker places that it could get dirty, but isn't really useful otherwise. It provides no protection to the product so I rarely use it, in fact I think I've lost it!

              The Speaker-

              The speaker is very compact, about the size of a snooker ball. The speaker has a locked and unlocked position, making it more compact for traveling, and allowing fuller sound when opened up properly. To lock/unlock it all you have to do is twist the capsule allowing the two halves to pop apart.

              The speaker looks very sleek, black in colour with a red speaker cone. I think you can get them in different colours now, you definitely can in the other products in the x mini range.

              There is a very small mini jack attached to the speaker, allowing it to connect to virtually any music playing device. This cable is very small, but as previously stated the USB cable also has a jack allowing a longer cable.

              The speaker charges from a mini USB port on the side which attaches to your computer via the included cable. When charging there is a red LED light on the side that lights up. This light goes blue when charged, and when the speaker is on.

              There is a jack socket on the side labelled audio, this is a very good feature of the X mini II that allows multiple speakers to be connected together for more amazing quality sound!

              Sound Quality-

              The sound quality from this small speaker is outstanding! The rich bass is stronger than anything I've heard coming from something it's size, and even bigger more expensive speakers! Unlike a lot of speakers with decent bass, the top end isn't compromised with the X mini II. In my opinion the sound from the X mini II is unrivalled by anything of its kind.
              With a small volume wheel on the speaker it is very easy to control the X mini II as well.

              Price-

              The X mini II can be found for under £20 online and in many stores across the UK. For this money I don't think you could find a better portable speaker system and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!
              All in all a great wee speaker on its own or joined with more of its kind. Great for BBQ's or any gatherings where more than your phone's speakers are required!

              5 stars!

                a great product, well worth the price

                Funnily enough after recently giving a good review of a similar product which I chose over the x-mini, said product decided to stop working! So without a moment to stop and think about it, I jumped online and ordered one of these for about £18. My previous speaker was much cheaper than this, but I decided that because I had previously read numerous good things about the x mini, it would be worth the extra money.

                The speakers come in a range of different colours - anything from blue to green, orange to pink. I bought mine in my purple as its my favourite colour, but it did seem on amazon that the colour choice reflected slightly in the price. Perhaps this depends where you buy the speaker from?
                It is very simple looking, nothing fancy, and fits in the palm of your hand. But it does what it sets out to do and gives a very good sound.
                It has a little volume dial on the side and the audio cable which you plug into your audio device is stored very neatly in the side too, so hidden when not in use. You can control the volume through either the audio device it's plugged into, or the speaker itself, or even both!

                The speaker comes with a little bag that you can keep it in, as well as a USB cable which is used for charging the device.

                One charge will get around 14 to 15 hours of use with this little speaker, and the sound that it gives you is a very high quality. When volume is turned up full the audio is still very clear, with good bass. There is no crackling or static noises! For it's size, the sound is very loud! I was very impressed with this.

                Disadvantages

                Great little gadget, perfect for its job and an interesting little talking piece

                This little ball packs a might wallop when it comes to portable speaker systems, it really is louder than you expect it to be when you look at it. Firstly, it is very small and fits nicely in your pocket, while its also rechargeable via usb, which you can also handily plug into the same charger you use for Ipod or Iphone, so you dont have to keep it plugged in or carry around batteries. When you unscrew it and it springs up the sound becomes even fuller, louder and bassy. The sub-woofer really is quite astonishing, producing so much bass you need to make sure its set down on a stable surface or it will move around. The sound is loud enough to fill a good sized room and for a sunny day in the park its really perfect, keeping a good sized group of people entertained (so long as your music choice is good).

                The sound quality is good too, about as clear and crisp as you would need from a portable system and far better than many of the larger more expensive ones out there. The little ball is stylish and different, with people always asking questions about where I got it and for much. Luckily I can tell them that it is a really good value product; at under £15 you couldn't really want or expect much better than this.
                The only possible down side is that the cable for connecting it to ipods and laptops is tiny, though you do not usually need it to be any bigger, it can be annoying if you want to change the track and have to move the speaker too.

                A great compact sound solution for mobile devices

                When my Philips portable speakers packed up six months ago while I was decorating my flat (spilling a large quantity of paint over it probably didn't help) I started looking for a replacement unit, mainly to use with my Apple devices (iTouch, iPad and older generation iPod Nano). Although my Philips unit provided a decent mix of good price, great functionality and decent portability, technology had moved on in the four years since I had bought it, and I was pleased to find that good things came in much smaller packages.

                After a bit of research, I settled on the X-Mini II capsule speaker, which is available from on-line retailers for as little as £12.99. I was initially sceptical - mostly because of the cheap price point and size - but I need not have worried. The X-Mini is a marvel of engineering, and completely lives up to its tag-line of "Sound Beyond Size".

                ~~~~~~~~
                IN THE BOX
                ~~~~~~~~

                The X-Mini comes packaged with a multi-function USB cable, a small instruction booklet (with minuscule writing that's challenging to read), and a small black felt drawstring bag to keep it all in. The unit itself is about the size and shape of a Clementine - about two inches in diameter in its closed position, and about three inches tall when it is fully deployed. It has a smooth matte black finish, with the internal driver finished off on the top with a mirrored red dimple - rather reminiscent of a red brake disc peeking out from under the alloy rims of a luxury sports car.

                Its minimalist look is enhanced by the paucity of buttons and clever storage. A short three inch cable with audio jack stows neatly in a groove in the base, which has three rubber feet for stability. If you're looking for a longer connection, the eighteen inch USB cable (included) also has a 3.5mm jack attached, and can be used instead.

                There is an on/off switch, an audio jack that lets you daisy-chain the speaker with another X-Mini (or two), an integrated volume dial, and a USB plug for charging and audio. To open the speaker, you simply twist and release and the top pops up to reveal the accordion-like speaker within. To close, you push the two halves together and twist again until discreet raised lines on each half are aligned with a satisfying "click".

                ~~~~~~~~~~~
                FUNCTIONALITY
                ~~~~~~~~~~~

                The unit is charged by attaching the USB cable to a powered port. A small red light on the bottom of the unit turns blue once the unit is charged, which usually takes around two hours. To use the speaker, you simply plug the audio jack into the headphone port of the relevant device (I use it for my iTouch and my work PC).

                Volume can be controlled using the dial on the unit or on the audio device it's plugged into (or both). When in use and not connected to power, the light will glow blue, dimming in intensity as the charge runs down. The charge (from an in-built rechargeable battery) usually lasts an average of eight hours, depending on volume of playback.

                The self-powered X-Mini II delivers a surprisingly rich and rounded sound, demonstrating none of the "tinny-ness" usually associated with MP3 speakers. It's not going to fill a huge room or wow an audiophile, but it is extremely effective given its size and its price point. There is little distortion, even at high volume levels, and a very satisfying level of bass that's off-set nicely by crisp and sharp delivery of sound. Also, given its size, weight (around 80 grams), clever design and great build quality, it is super-portable and so lives permanently in my work rucksack when not in use.

                ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                SHOULD YOU GET ONE?
                ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                If you need a compact, durable, great sounding portable speaker that can attach as easily to your MP3 as it does to your computer or mobile phone, then you'll be hard pressed to find a better product. At its average price point of around £14.99, its astonishing value for money and packs much more punch than its 2 watt rating (and size) would suggest. Highly recommended.

                Quick Update: The unit now comes in a host of different colours as well.
