looks good and performs well too and so simple even I can work it

I've been using this little compact little dock mainly as a speaker for my PC for about 6 months now. It sits easily on the desk as it's only 21cm wide, 15cm deep and 13.5 cm high and at the £40 I paid for it (the price for this fluctuates substantially on amazon and tesco direct from £35 - 70) it's an extremely good looking piece of kit in my opinion, even though it's fairly low on features it makes up for it by being simple to use and having a great sound for its size. The dock will take any iPhone and also i-pod, though not an i-pad - for that you will have to buy a larger model in this range or you can use the aux-in for your sound. It's kept minimal with this sound system with just an on/off button on the top of the unit and a volume button on the front for easy access, and there's also a free app (dock studio) that comes with this item if you want to use the dock as an alarm clock or radio station via your i-phone, which once docked will charge and synch with your PC, I don't use the app a great deal, preferring to use the dock from my directly, but when I have used it I've found everything straightforward and with no glitches. You can power the dock via the supplied AC unit or it will also take four AA batteries if you want it to be more portable. Perhaps the most important thing about this or any dock is the sound quality. I'm no expert but with an 10W output I wasn't expecting great things. I find though that the stereo sound is surprisingly good - there's no distortion even at quite high levels and there's a depth to the bass I wasn't expecting. Given that the main item I listen to is a B+W dock, this much cheaper and more compact item measures up to that surprisingly well. Given that this is a small speaker the sound is stronger and more rounded than you would expect, Phillips say that this is due to the speakers being made of Neodymium. The settings on my i-pod do need a bit of tweaking for the best possible sound, but overall I find the dock pretty impressive whatever the type of music you are playing on it, and certainly better than you would expect for the price. It's a bit of a pity that there's no remote with this dock, again for that you will need to buy a more expensive item, and the supplied cables could be a bit longer, but other than that I can't really fault it. It looks good from every angle, and it's really well made in my opinion, the buttons all feel good to the touch and the finish is excellent. The shiny white back gives it a really sleek, discrete and modern look and it feels sturdy for an item that is only 0.96kg and the small footprint it has is an advantage in my opinion, as it the fact that it's simple and intuitive to use. This dock has been a good buy for us and goes to prove that sometimes small is beautiful. This is a great looking dock that performs well, is good value and looks great, highly recommended.
