These speakers are each about 185mm tall by 120mm wide and 160mm deep, making them quite small in the speaker world.
They weight almost next to nothing, about ¾ of a kg so they aren't going to pull your shelf off the wall.
They each give out a nice ½ watt each ,(1 watt in total) which doesn't sound a lot but as they are as clear as Buxton mineral water the low watts is soon forgotten.
They are identical, almost, the only difference in them being that one of them has the control dial underneath the speaker. This is a dial that switches the speakers on and also adjust the volume.
They are power by a USB cable, which is joined by a 3.5mm jack for plugging into the 3.5mm port in your music player.
The USB connector slides into a USB port and you need both USB and 3.5mm jack in order for these speakers to work.
I have connected them to a phone and used a 'special' USB adapter that I got to charge another phone, the plug has a USB port on it so I get the power to the speakers from that. This means I can listen to the music on my phone through these speakers without having to find a micro USB double ended cable...
Small speakers are usually, well, the only word I can say is 'S*&^e', so I was expecting the same from these. But how surprised I was when the music coming from this sounded almost as good as the larger Warfdale speakers I have attached to my main stereo, I said almost, for the size. There was very little annoyance sound, which meant I could enjoy the music without the hissing.
And the price..? these sell on the market for about £12.
I own a mid-range laptop, so although the sound quality coming through it is decent enough, I needed something to give it a little boost. I was never going to pay over the top for a pair of speakers, so when i ordered these recently on Amazon, I was pleased at the £11.99 price tag.
These are dinky little things, but really nice looking none-the-less. They have a certain sleek look about them, with a black-grey colour scheme which is nice. You're not swimming in cables either, the USB and jack cables sit nicely in the back of the speakers, so it doesn't look untidy when you're using them.
The problem I've found with smaller speakers is that they give woeful distortion. That's not the case with these, when you crank them up high there is a little distortion, but to be honest they're powerful enough so I never really have them above 75%. I use them mainly for watching movies when I'm not at home to hook my computer up to my TV. The quality really does show, and the speakers really add a little quality to the speach in the movies, which I find gets a little lost through the built- in speakers. I've not used them for a great deal of music playing, but the sound is crisp and clear enough.
I wouldn't go as far as to say these speakers "enhance" the sound as such, just allow you to get a lot more volume than your laptop speakers can give you. For £11.99, they're well worth the quality they are, and a handy little size to fit in laptop bags on the go.
Whenever we wanted to watch DVDs on the laptop, we would bring the speakers from our computer upstairs down and set them up. They were clunky, old, and not so great with the quality. Add to that the power plug was put in the only available socket behind the sofa where our cat would be able to secretly chew the cable without being caught.
This got annoying so we treated ourselves to a new set!
We wanted something simple, functional and pretty so opted for the Logitech z120. The speakers are a nice size, are a smooth curvy white plastic with black faces and a silver coloured centre - giving them a lovely stylish look.
Unlike our last pair, they do not need a wall socket and are powered by USB so have two cables, one for the USB and one (3.5mm) for the audio.
My favourite feature is that they have cable management- in the back of the speakers there is a hollowed out section with a area where you can wrap the wire around and clip it into place so you do not have to deal with annoying, tangling unsightly cables. This is a god-send with three cats around that just LOVE chewing any type of cable.
The power and volume control is one turn dial on the right hand speaker and there is an indicator light to show when they are on.
The sound quality on these products is excellent. It is so clear and crisp and the volume does not need to be too high to hear it well, unlike some models I've dealt with.
Also because there is no wall socket, they are easier to carry around and move to the different computers are we require them.
We got these from Amazon, they were around £11.00 but I think you can probably get them cheaper now. Even at £11.00 not a bad price for the great look and excellent quality.
A brilliant buy and I will definitely be getting another pair for my computer upstairs so I can replace the old clunky ones.
I was lucky enough to get a pair of these speakers bundled with a recent laptop purchase and as I'm quite picky with sound quality, I was very interested to plug them in hear what they could do.
First impressions, as always with speakers, are the weight. Unless the manufacturer has weighted the product it always gives you a good idea how decent the speakers will be, especially in bass response etc.
If they are very light, you'll most likely get a 'light' sound for example.
So, although these are small compact and stylish little speakers I was encouraged that they had a bit of weight to them out of the box.
They come with a three foot (or so) connecting lead between the speakers - so you can't have them a long way apart, and then the same kind of length for a usb cable (to power the speakers) and a 3.5mm audio jack lead to connect to your laptop of computer's sound output.
I popped in a chart pop CD and gave it whirl and was really impressed by both the bass, mid and highs of these speakers. The stereo field was also good, really punchy and crisp. I put them through their paces by altering the sound from pop, rock and jazz settings etc via the media player and they handled the changes well. I eventually settled on a custom setting that pushed up the bass a little and took away the sharpness in the 'middle'.
Although these can pump out quite a sound, not enough to be considered 'hi fi' levels, but certainly enough for laptop use in a bedroom etc.
The speakers I have are white, which do clash with the standard laptop black colour most people are used to, but I'm not sure if you can buy them in other colours. Just something to bear in mind if you want your kit to match.
These speakers are not as impressive as a 2.1 set up that include a bass box, but if you want that kind of sound you would be buying these. They are approx 4.5inches square in size, so can be considered portable as well (especially as they are usb powered).
In conclusion, a nice option for small compact speakers that offers a decent sound.
