      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Beautiful straight edges, easy to measure with an use.

As I've been reviewing my craft supplies I've come to realise just how many items I consider to be absolute essentials that I would absolutely have to pack in my desert island suitcase... there would be no room left for clothes, so I would have to improvise!

The X Cut Guillotine is a guillotine primarily aimed at crafters to cut card, paper, vellum, acetate etc. Mine is a pretty girly pink. The handle is detachable and can be stored under the base as can part of the ruler, ensuring it is as compact as possible for storage. The handle itself is very easy to hold and grip and the guillotine is fairly lightweight and could be taken to craft clubs or scraps. It is so easy to use and cuts out cleanly and crisply every time. However it should never be used by children especially unsupervised.

The major advantages over scissors are beautiful straight lines every time and that you can both measure and cut at the same time. It gives a much more polishes and professional look to projects.

The ruler/measurements guide is extremely useful especially if you need to cut pieces to a given size or have lots of pieces that need to be cut to the same size. It can be used to cut very precise and detailed measurements with ease, and can be used in 1mm increments which is particularly useful to me as I like to design 3D papercraft models (I recently designed a 3d craft desk for an article published in issue 82 of Papercraft Essentials).

X Cut also do a smaller version which can cut up to 8.5 inches however whilst easier to transport it is very limiting in terms of the size of a project. I do own the smaller version as well, as it is the one I started, with however I soon moved onto the larger version, as you can cut card or paper up to 12 by 12 which makes it ideal for use on larger projects or scrapbook pages.

The X Cut 12 inch guillotine is widely available in craft shops and online and costs around £25.00.

It is extremely well made and durable and mine is still going strong after three years of near constant use. Should it ever need replacing I would have not hesitation in buying the same model again and can highly recommend it.
