Purple pins challenge the elite of sock knitting needles

Recently I decided that my next big thing would be to learn how to knit socks, and as I didn't have a dedicated set of sock needles, I went to http://www.knitncaboodle.co.uk/ to pick some out. Purple Pins were on offer at the time and they were perfect for knitting some beautiful (and very expensive!) bamboo sock yarn I had just acquired.

Purple pins are, like the name suggests, purple knitting needles. They are 2.5mm, 18cm long and double-pointed, available in sets of five. They are intended for sock knitting, although they are suitable for any sort of tubular knitting, like sleeves or gloves. The needles are made of aluminium meaning they are very light, and the coating over them makes the stitches glide along them with no snags. They are slightly curved in the middle and this makes them really comfortable to hold, unlike most straight needles were you might find yourself getting wrist-ache.

Although I love the needles themselves, there are a few points to consider. I have not managed to find contact details for the manufacturer, meaning that if I needed replacements or an exchange then I would have to go through the vendor. Secondly they only come in the most commonly used size for sock-yarn which limits their use a little.

My purple pins were a joy to knit with as I didn't find I had to fight with the stitches - learning to hold four needles at once was challenging enough without any other problems! At £2.89, I can't begin to say what a bargain these are, especially when you consider the lack of quality of other needles in this price range.
