My daughter received Play-Doh Rapunzel Hair Designs last Christmas. She was 5 years old at the time, she is now 6 years old. This particular set is suitable for children 3+ years. It comes in an eye-catching cardboard box, with a bright picture of the set and all it's contents on the back and front. We keep our set inside the box as there are quite a few parts that can go missing. The set includes a Rapunzel head (on stand), pair of plastic scissors, hair crimp roller (which doubles up in to a comb), hair plait roller (with Pascal the chameleon on top) and 3 pots of coloured Play-Doh (gold, yellow and pink). My daughter was really pleased to receive her set as not only does she love Play-Doh but she loves Disney Princesses (especially Rapunzel) too! Rapunzel is a good choice of princess for this particular set as it's a hairdressing set and Rapunzel is best known for her long magical hair. The toy is almost set up and ready to go, you just need to clip a couple of things in place. There are a number of different ways to play with this toy... The first way to play is to remove the tiara from Rapunzel's head, push some Play-Doh inside the hole, replace the tiara and wind round the handle on the side of the stand. This is slightly fiddly but not hard, my 6 year old is happy to do it all on her own. As you turn the handle the Play-Doh begins to sprout out of the top of Rapunzel's head. My daughter absolutely loves this aspect, as I'm sure most children would do. The hair looks really funny and if you put enough Play-Doh in, the 'hair' will hang down either side of her face. The only small downside is that there isn't enough room inside Rapunzel's head to put LOADS of Play-Doh inside, therefore you can't make Rapunzel's hair really long in this way (the longest you can get it is about ear length). Other ways to play include crimping and plaiting the Play-Doh. You can roll out long strips of Play-Doh and use the crimping roller to create a wavy crimped effect. The same applies to the plait roller. My daughter doesn't yet know how to create real plaits so this is a nice feature to have. Both rollers are very easy to use and the results are very pretty. You can then stick the strips of hair on to Rapunzel's head. The stand that Rapunzel's head sits on has a number of different shaped moulds on it. Mould shapes include flowers, hearts, a necklace, diamonds and other jewels. You can push lumps of Play-Doh in to the moulds to create shapes and then stick those on to Rapunzel's hair. The Play-Doh is easy enough to get in and out of the moulds. You can also create a necklace to stick around Rapunzel's neck and there are empty jewels on Rapunzel's crimper/comb and tiara to fill with Play-Doh. My daughter loves using the little plastic scissors (which are blunt and very safe to use) to cut Rapunzels hair but doesn't really have any need to use the comb. My daughter really enjoys decorating Rapunzel's hair with different creations (some from the moulds and some she makes herself by hand) and has spent hours in total cutting, crimping, cranking, plaiting and moulding! There seems to be a sufficient amount of Play-Doh to use with the set (although a couple more colours would have been nice I suppose), but you can always use Play-Doh from other sets or buy more tubs of Play-Doh if you wish. As long as the Play-Doh is put back in the tubs and the lids are tightly sealed, then the Play-Doh will last for a LONG time. If the Play-Doh isn't looked after, it will become useless in no time. My daughter still has some of the original Play-Doh left but I will definitely need to buy a couple of new 'top up' tubs soon. The colours are perfect for the set - you can make golden blonde hair with pink flowers and jewels. I find a lot of my daughters Play-Doh machines get Play-Doh stuck inside them in unreachable places (which then turns the Play-Doh hard and clogs up the machine) but I don't find this is the case with the Rapunzel Hair Designs, it's really easy to clean. Play-Doh Rapunzel Hair Designs is widely available at places such as Argos, Toys R Us and Amazon. It generally retails at around £15.00 which I think is pretty reasonable. Overall this is a great Play-Doh set that my daughter often plays with. It's great fun, encourages creativity, requires imagination and sharpens up those hairdressing skills!
