My daughter enjoys arts and craft activities and this was one of the presents she received for her fourth birthday from a friend. The set is neatly packaged inside a pink wooden box with Melissa & Doug written on the side in black writing. Through the clear plastic you can see the pink and purple ink pad with the wooden stamps. It has 8 stamps inside with the image printed on the handle so your child can easily see which image it will be. The stamp handles are easy to little hands to hold on to (and not so little hands too!) the wood is smooth. The stamps are good quality and feel sturdy, I think even if the ink dries out before, we will be able to re-use the stamps with replacement ink. The ink is washable and non toxic. I am very glad it is washable as my daughter can sometimes be messy when stamping. It is recommended for age 4+ . I would say that this is an accurate age recommendation. My daughter is 4 and really enjoys this set. She understands that you need to press the stamp firmly into the ink pad to cover the whole stamp before pressing it on the paper. My younger daughter (18 months) was just putting everything into the ink pad, hands, toys etc etc! This set holds my daughters attention for quite a while. She has used it to decorate birthday cards, notes and for making pictures for friends and family. I am not sure how much my friend paid for this as it was a present. At the moment on Amazon it is priced at £4.99, which I feel is a good price. I think it makes a lovely gift. I would recommend it for any other child who likes arty activities. Thanks for reading.
The set My little girl is obsessed with arts and crafts at the moment. While ordering the boys some trains to paint I knew I needed something for my little girl to do at the same time. We have had a number of sets from Mellissa and Doug and have found them to be fantastic quality, so when I came across this girly stamp set I decided this would be the one. In the set you receive one ink block made up of a pink and purple colour. Of course this carries the girly theme well and my little girl was delighted with the options available. There are also eight different stamps in total. They are all based on the butterfly and hearts theme, but there are different variations so that little one can use the stamps to make lovely pictures. The whole set comes in a lovely wooden presentation box. We did try to use this to store the set once it had been used once but we found that as the plastic cover kept coming away the pieces would fall out. For this reason the stamps now sit in our craft box ready to be used again. The stamps are a lot smaller than I was expecting. Age recommendation is four years plus so I should have taken this into consideration, but my daughter is still able to fully use this set independently. She does try to colour the pictures in but as she is still a little young this rarely happens as the area is just too small for her little hands. She has just turned 4 so is not too far away from the age recommendation when she received the set, and it has received a fair amount of us in this time. In use My little girl was amazed by the set as soon as she opened it. Butterflies and hearts seemed to be a very good theme as she was over the moon when she realised what was hiding inside. She went straight to the craft box to receive some paper and began making a lovely picture straight away. She was a little disappointed there were no colouring pencils inside as she had seen her brothers with a similar version before, but again she just used ones she had previously. There is no set up required other than gathering paper, and other accessories little one may need to use while making a picture. Then I opened the ink pad ready for her and she began. At first she began just randomly printing different pictures all over the page, and once she became bored of this she decided she would draw a picture, and just add the stamping for details in the picture. As there are so many designs in the one box she can use her imagination to make different pictures each and every time. There are eight different stamps to use, and this mixed with any drawing or picture she likes mean there is no limit to her imagination. She will draw absolutely anything and even if the theme does not match the stamps she will make a border from the just so she can incorporate them into the picture. We found that the stamps worked very well. They can be used on both card and paper without them sliding around. The ridges on the outline for the stamps are deep enough that it produces really good prints. The stamps can be cleaned very easily to swap between the colours, and my little girl actually enjoys making sure her stamps are clean before she uses them. They have stained a little but after the amount of use they have received this is not surprising. I was a little worried because they were so small but she seemed to have no problem using them. They are the perfect size for little hands to hold and move around easily, and although we have had a few smudges pictures overall the results are fantastic. We have found in recent days that the ink pad is drying out a little. The lid of the casing has always been closed straight after use, but then we have had this set for around three months with it being used at least three times a week. The ink pad still works, but we find that the pictures it produces are a lot more faded. As we have ink pads from other crafty sets my daughter now uses these, but she does miss the pink and purple colour that came with the set. The ink does have a habit of finding its way on to my daughter's clothes and skin. As she is at the lower end of the recommended age group she sometimes forgets and her arm slips over the pad. We have found that it does wash out very easily although I did use a stain remover with the wash just in case. As it does come away from clothes making it perfect for a child's activity as there are no worries for parents. As the design is not too young we find it appeals to a large age range of children. When my niece comes to stay she enjoys using these stamps and she is nine years old so the 4-7 age recommendation can definitely be pushed. Summary As you can probably tell by now we absolutely love this set. My little girl can play independently or I can sit with her and make a picture. It can be used on both card and paper with ease and as there is so much choice my daughter never seems to become bored. The stamps are a little small which means as my daughter is still learning to colour within the lines it can be a difficult task for her. She rather enjoys this as it means she has to concentrate on what she is doing so provides a challenge. I purchased this for around £5 which is where I get all our Mellissa and Doug craft sets from, and for the price it really is a great investment. We have had this set for months now and it still receives use a few times a week.
Before my daughter came along I used to a lot of spare time making my own cards and one of the things I liked to have was a variety of stamps, especially if I was making cards for some of my nieces and nephews. Well, when I still had the time to make cards, I used the remainder of an amazon voucher that I had to purchase this Melissa and Doug Butterfly and Hearts Stamp set, which currently costs £5 on amazon. Now, I know that this product is aimed at children, but I thought it would suit me as well, since it included a two colour inkpad and then 8 stamps with a mix of butterflies and hearts, which I thought would be ideal on handmade cards for children. I am a fan of Melissa and Doug products and have frequently purchased products from this range for my niece who loves craft stuff, so I was expecting top quality. WHen the product arrives, as you can see from the top of the screen the stamps are placed at the top and bottom of the box, although they were a little smaller than I expected. The variety in terms of stamps was good and I knew instantly which stamps my niece would like me to use on her card, plus I knew I could use the butterfly stamps on other cards as well. The problem with this product, in my opinion, is related to the inkpad. The inkpad is split in two, one side being purple and the other pink, so obviously the stamps would be in appropriate colours. I have other inkpads in my collection that I had planned to use along with these stamps, but I did hope the pink and purple inkpad would be useful. I was very disappointed! The inkpad when you place a stamp on it, does not even feel like it is moist with ink and when you actually go to place the stamp on a page after placing it on the inkpad, there is only a very faint image shown, certainly not clear. No matter how much ink I try to get on each stamp it still does not stamp clearly. Now for a child using these stamps they may not mind as much, but it also means that they would find it difficult to colour in the picture, especially any detail in the stamped picture, as it really isn't clear enough. I find it annoying, because if I use these stamps with one of my other proper inkpads, there is no problem and they are in fact good stamps, as I said the problem is the inkpad. All in all, despite these stamps being pretty and ideal for what I wanted them for and also would be lovely for a little girl interested in arts and crafts, don't be purchasing this product for the inkpad. In fact, even if you want to purchase this product, you really need to have a good inkpad to hand as well and not rely on the one included if you want to stamp proper images! A real pity for a Melissa and Doug product.
My oldest daughter who I six years old was at a birthday party recently and won the melissa and doug hearts and butterflies stamp set playing pass the parcel. Gone are the days you were lucky to win a sweetie! My daughter couldnt wait to get home to play with her stamping set. I have previously bought my daughter melissa and doug toys before and they are great value for money, I did a little search on amazon so I could give an accurite price as it was a gift, amazon uk are selling the set for £4.95 with free saver delivery. The set comes in a wooden box that is split with wooden deviders to hold the stamps and ink pad neatly. The box is wrapped in clear wrapping, the set contains 8 wooden stamps and 1 ink pad that contains 2 inks in pink and purple. The stamps have hearts and butterflies on them, they have a picture on top of each stamp so you know what stamp you are using. The stamps have grooves on the side of them for children to grip. My daughter has a massive arts and crafts box or as we call it "the rainy day box". My daughter has used the stamps to make cards for friends and family and also made home made wrapping paper stamping the gorgeous hearts and butterflie stamps all over paper. We also made home made photo frames to stick on the fridge using the lovely stamps. My daughter found them easy to use, its recommended that the stamps are suitable for 4-7 year olds, in my opinion they are perfectly safe from 2 years onwards if supervised. The stamps are chunky easy to grip, they stamp well with minimum effort and do not streak, smudge or run on paper. The ink is washable and comes off clothing and skin easy with soapy water, the ink is kiddy friendly as its non-toxic. The wooden tray and stamps are very well made and excellent quality and have been sanded down until perfectly smooth with no sharp edges or any chance of getting a splinter! The ink has dried out several times but find a few drops of water brings it back to life again. My daughter and myself have had hours of fun using the stamps and have had many fun ideas for craft activities using the stamps. You will defenatly not be disappointed if you were to purchase them and they would be a great gift for a little princess or to spend pocket money on.
When i was a child i loved arts and crafts from paining, drawing, sticking pasta to paper and threading beads on string to make a necklace theses are all the things i was looking forward to doing with my girls. My daughters are strange little kids, they don't like any kinds of crafting and even avoid it at nursery. I have bought many good craft items to encourage them and not one of them has shown an interest. I bought some melissa and doug craft items from amazon last year and one of the things i bought was the hearts and butterflies stamp kit. I already love melissa and doug and have many of the wooden toys and a few puzzles all of which are great quality durable and been able to keep my girls attention. Melissa and doug hearts and butterflies stamp kit costs around £6.00 from amazon uk free postage. Melissa and doug hearts and butterflies stamp kit comes in a dark pink wooden box. Each section of the box is partitioned off so there is a place for the stamps to sit in a row and the ink pad in the middle of the box. The wooden box is made from thick wood and its more of a deep tray that a box. The annoying thing about the box is that its made so you can keep all the stamp kit together so why is there no lid? A lid would have helped make it easier for transporting of stopping the stamps falling out. The ink pad is spilt into two colours one half is bright pink ink and other is purple ink. This sits in its own plastic tray with a clear clip shut lid to stop the ink drying out. The actual stamps are very pretty. These are small blocks of wood and they curve in the way to help give a child more grip and easier to pick up and control the block. Each block has a colour picture on the top to show what the stamp is. The stamp has a rubber picture on the bottom and can be easily pressed into the ink and put on paper to see the printed picture. I like the way the rubber stamp is raised out quiet alot more than any others i have used before because even if pressed hard into the ink pad no excess ink lands on the wooden part of the block and wont ruin the picture. In total there are ten stamps with all different kinds of heats and butterflies to choose from. My girls were not very keen even on this set when it arrived but finally last month i managed to get them to make a birthday card for granny with the stamp kit. I was actually quite impressed at how they managed to use the stamps on their own and create a card. Although this activity should have been mess free they managed to dip fingers in the ink and spread it all over the wooden stamps. A quick wash of the wooden blocks and left to dry they are ink free and back in the tray again. Hannah had the most fun with the stamp kit and has since shown more of an interest in the stamp kit making some pictures and colouring in the stamp imprints that's left on the paper. I think this is a great little set and if your child already enjoys arts and crafts then this set would be a lovely little extra to add in. I recommend the melissa and doug hearts and butterflies stamp kit.
My daugher is very into arts and crafts, and is currently obsessed with making home made cards and gift tags . Keen to encourage her in her creative endeavours, I decided to buy her a nice set of stamps to use to decorate the cards, and a quick browse of amazon revealed all kinds of kits . I finally opted for this Melissa and Doug Hearts and Butterflies Stamping Set, which cost me £6.95. This set contains a large double sided ink pad, pink on one half, and purple on the other, and 8 stamps. All these pieces fit away tidily for storage inside the pink wooden box. When this arrived, the first thing I noticed was the good quality of the kit . The wooden storage box is lovely quality, and it well painted in a very nice pink. The stamps themselves have chunky wooden handles, and each handle has indentations making it easy to grip. Each handle has an image on it, showing the design of the stamp, and the rubber on the bottom is well attached to the handle .The ink pad is good, with the stamps leaving a nice bright colour on the paper, and designs are attractive and very girly . My daughter really enjoys using this to create cards for her friends. The handles are a good size to grip comfortably, and the stamps don't need too much pressure to leave behind a clear image. After plenty of use, they show no signs of wear and tear, and the ink pad still has plenty of life left in it, where other cheaper pads would have given up by now . On the odd occasion when it does dry out slightly, a tiny dab of water gets it working again in no time. Although this is marketed towards kids, I do think this would be a great addition to any crafters stamp kit, as the designs are not childish, but rather simple and uncluttered . I think this is a fab kit, and is excellent value for money, and I really recommend it.
