      another roaring chicken socks success

When it has been raining non-stop and you and the kids have been stuck indoors for a little while, due to the fact that being the school holidays all kid-centred places are full of other people's children and to be avoided if possible, the afternoon can be tricky. Normally by about 3 o'clock everyone is tired, dens have been built, lego played with and you fear any more "Finding Nemo" might actually turn their eyes square. At times like this a stash of handy craft activities comes into its own and can fill that difficult time before dinner. Enter this, our most recent Klutz Chicken Socks acquisition and part of a collection I acquired due to not trusting the Met Office. Luckily this book is much more useful than the British August forecast, Chicken Socks Sets having been designed specifically for younger children, this particular book being fun for age 3 and up in my opinion. The book comes, as you can see from the picture, with 4 rolls of coloured tape which are about 0.5cm thick. Apparently there is 200 feet of tape. The green, blue, yellow and red rolls of tape are contained in a handy zippable pocket and designed for use with the 33 pages of taping and colouring inside. The premise is simple; line drawn pictures must be completed with tape, each page has a grey sillouhette where the tape is to be stuck to make the cat's whiskers, the monster's teeth or the sticky up hair. There are also some pages for free-style taping. Once completed each page can be coloured in, and because this is a spiral bound book, easily torn out once completed. This book is genius - kids love sellotape, and the tape provided is tearable to boot and quite thick. It peels of quite easily for repositioning if your child isn't pleased with their first result. The design of the tape also means no asking adults where the end of the tape is or said adult fearing for the lives of their children due to the frightening way they are brandishing the scissors (this could be just my children). I found my 5 and 3 year old where able to happily work on a double page together and each able to access the book at their different level. The younger child did get a little frustrated with the tape at times as she kept twisting it, but overall this craft activity worked extremely well. The tape works best if you stick it onto the page and then tear it, otherwise the results are a bit more, er interesting! The children have been keen to play with this book and have worked their way through the pages taking great care with the sticking of tape and colouring of pictures and producing suprisingly good results without me having to closely supervise them. This is a really well thought out book that is great value for £5.99 (rrp). It does say in the book that more tape can be purchased at klutz.com, but they don't appear to ship to the UK and I haven't been able to track down refills here, however we still have plenty of tape left. I highly recommend this book for rainy days, journeys or just for fun! As any parent can testify, the appeal of tape is universal. Hand a kid a roll of tape and the rest is sticky history. Clearly this inpulse is way too strong to fight, so.....Announcing a book filled with 'tape-me' pages, along with four rolls of colourful kid-friendly paper tape (no scissors required). Each page is a different activity: Wrap the mummy, frame the picture, build the train tracks or just 'paint' the whole picture in coloured tape. Totally tape pairs an irresistable activity with only-from-Klutz creativity. All we had to do was stick the two together.
