My daughter came home from a party last week having won one of the games and her prize was the tube of glitter fun art. She is a real girly girl so the very fact that it had glitter in it was enough to please her and she promptly emptied the contents of the tube out on the kitchen table. I was surprised to find you get a really good sized glue pen, 4 glitter shakers, 10 felt tip pens and 3 A4 pictures to colour and decorate. She was over the moon and as it was free I was pleased she would be entertained for a while.
The pleasure didn't last long though and I was disappointed to find that the glue pen I thought looked really good, was mission impossible to get into. The glue had not set inside so that wasn't problem, but it simply would not come out of the opening at the end of the pen. I tried to pull off the "nib" to see if there was another seal that had to be broken but it just wouldn't budge and in the end I gave it up and gave her pot of normal PVA glue we have at home anyway and a spreader.
We had to weigh down the edges of the pictures with salt and pepper pots etc as they kept pinging up into the tube shape again. This was annoying but nothing the makers could do about it due to the packaging shape, however it might be advisable to lay them under something heavy for the night prior to using.
With that hurdle over with, she merrily glued all over the girls dresses in her pictures and tried to shale out the glitter. Uh oh, the glitter pieces were cut too big to fit through the small holes in the top of the shakers. Could things get any worse? I had to get four pots out the cupboard and empty the glitter contents into these so she could pick it out with her fingers and sprinkle onto the glue. I was very disappointed at this point as I could have easily done all this for her without the need for a specially brought tube with it all in and I would have done a better job.
Lastly the pens were really cheap felt tips and I knew this would be the case before I even used them. They are very thin nibs and this means the colouring is quite scratchy and not very pretty effect wise. My daughter loves to colour pictures and spends a lot of time trying to keep things neat and have it looking beautiful. These pens didn't help her achieve the look she was looking for and in the end she became very frustrated with the whole episode and decided TV was a better option than the tube of glitter art.
I know it was a free prize and I shouldn't complain, but it was a let down and it was my daughter who suffered the disappointment and me who suffered the mess afterwards, with all the separate pots needing to be sorted out and rinsed.
You can buy these online at www.bgstores.co.uk and they are reduced to £1.44 at the moment so will not break the bank, but I wouldn't buy them if I were you. Your kids will be disappointed like my daughter and you can set this whole thing up at home with existing art supplies you probably already have and pictures printed from online colouring sites.
Don't waste your time or money.
