I loved Monsters Inc when I saw it and have seen it several times. The characters are lively and very likeable and are great fun as well. So when I saw the Monsters Inc game for the gamecube I had to buy it as I think my son will love it. To be honest with you if you are seasoned gameplayer who likes something complicated this isn't for you as it really is just geared towards younger children in my opinion.
This game is very simple and is an arcade style type of setup. There is no real detailed storyline and it's easy to play from the start and master as the controls are pretty basic.
The general idea of this game is that you play as one of your favourite characters and play in various settings throwing balls of all shapes and sizes at each other or at targets to score points. The highest score wins and it's great fun to play with friends and compete against each other oro against the computer. So basically it's dodgeball in essence in single or multi-player mode.
The game features nice animation involving the characters in the movie. Each of the characters you can play as has their own special ability. For example, Sully is all about strength and Mike is all about speed. This gives things more variety and interest, plus the various coloured balls have different effects when they hit their target.
The great thing about this game is that it's easy to get into the levels as they are not complicated and the objectives are clear.
As far as the gameplay goes in the arena, players can dodge, throw and duck in seven arenas inspired by the movie.
In addition the characters throw 'laugh balls' in an effort to be the first to fill up their laugh canisters. You can unlock hidden characters and bonus stages.
Add to that the variety of game modes, this is a great simple game that is fun for everyone..
The enterprising monsters at Monsters, Inc. have learned that the key to the citys energy crisis is to harness the power of laughter instead of screams. So, to help them give kids the giggles, Mike and Sulley have invented a new game, but to get the hang of it, they will need your help. You can throw, dodge, and block to your hearts content with a special laugh ball in this four-player sport.
