EPIC vintage example of brilliant craftsmanship for all those AMP lovers out there.

Brilliant I bought this Yamaha MX-1 for my best friend as I had one and they are EPIC!!! I can't rate this enough.

Yamaha is already a pretty exceptional brand so with regards to its AMP it is in fact one of their best. The MX-1 is probably less raved about as it was made at a time when the traditional two channel stereo was moving into digital surround entertainment systems. The MX-1 is an effortless preformer with a balanced and natural musical presentation, never slowing down. As with all great amps the MX-1 has it's own style, sound and is extremely good contender for those who enjoy listening to high quality music throughout the day and love the convenience of volume control provided by using the remote.

There is practically no noise or distortion and all it needs is to warm up to working temperature and the sound is hi-end. I have found that it doesn't seem to get warmer the more you use it.

The MX-1 is capable of delivering more than 1200W, being stable below 2 ohm. It's able to drive very large speakers. The sound is very loud and crisp.

At low power levels, ordinary power supplies are acceptable, but at middle to high levels, ripples are likely to occur. Yamaha's APS circuitry prevents ripple, maintaining precise, constant voltage at all power levels.

Yamaha has a special base inside its chassis to support the heavy components and stop resonance and vibration. The MX-1 adds extra damping material between the two panels and it's all supported by XL-AV (extra large,antiI-vibration) feet. It however still looks sleek and stylish for its time.

Some of the tech spec is that it's remote power link with Yamaha CX-1 and CX-2 Preamps for custom installation applications. It allows use of one or both sets of speakers. The banana plug is compatible on all channels. Whats great is it allows the use of an array of speaker wires and connectors.

This is just a brilliant example of vintage craftsmanship and the fact I've used it for years and its been driven hard and never burnt out (overheated) is what I really love about it as well as the EPIC sound quality.
