Fast acting, not took expense hayfever treatment.

I've sufered from hayfever for years now and I've tried every trick in the book to relieve the symptoms. Then the other year I found Boot's own brand hayfever relief tablets and I though I'd give them a go and I haven't regretted it once.

They come in a blue cardboard box with either a 7 or 14 day supply of tablets. I bought the 14 day as it worked out more economical to do this, I can't remember how much they cost, but when you add in the cost of transport I didn't want to be flitting backwards and forwards to Boots every seven days. The tablets themselves come on a plastic tray covered in silver foil and are easily dispensed by just pressing the plastic and the pill pops out. The pills themselves are small and white and can easily be swallowed without the need for a drink and you only need to take one anyway.

I find that they start to work quite quickly and last throughout the day. I've put them through rigerous testing believe me. I've gone out for walks on days when I've known there was going to be a high pollen count, not just round to the local shops, oh no these were given the full test, a walk through thick woodland followed by open flower meadows, along streams, passed new cut grass and then back through woodland and they've done themselves proud, I didn't sneeze once. My eyes didn't itch or water and my nose didn't feel bunged up, or was running like a tap at all. Now if that isn't a test I don't know what is. I'm also allegic to dogs and cats and they work just fine for me with those too. The added bonus with these tablets is that they're non-drowsy so you can drive and operate machinery without the fear of falling asleep.

A hayfever tablet which doesn't work well

When it comes to this time of year I am a sufferer of hayfever and have been for years so it is of no surprise when my nose starts to run, my eyes start to itch and turn red and I sneeze a lot. Me personally I cannot stand feeling like that and when I'm trying to work at my desk or even say housework around the house the constant nagging of the typical symptoms really do start to irritate me so I tend to try and take some sort of health product to help relieve the irritating symptoms so my day can go according to plan.

Recently in Boots I was paying for a few items at the till when I noticed at the side of the till - the one which has products such as packet tissues, chewing gum, you know the one that tempts you as you pay! Well this time it features Boots Non-Drowsy Hayfever Relief Tablets on a buy one get on free offer for either the 7 or 14 day supply. Knowing I needed to top up my supply I took advantage of this offer and they were bought and paid for! I didn't hesitate in buying Boots own hayfever tablets simply because they are made by a pharmacy and I generally find their products good value.

The Non-Drowsy hayfever tablets are meant to help ease the symptoms of hayfever such as itchy eyes, running nose as well as for other allergies such as pet allergies and dust allergies so they can be used for other allergies. Boots seem to do a non-drowsy and normal version but as I want to remain focussed throughout the day I opted for the non-drowsy variety! The tablets come in a pretty standard slim blue cardboard box and they themselves come in a foil covered packet. On the back of the box there is the usual information such as dosage, instructions, ingredients and warnings etc. Inside the box there is a more informative leaflet should you need it.

To get a tablet out you simply need to press in the foil where the tablets lie and it will easily come out. The tablet is white in colour and oval in shape and around half a centimetre in size but incredibly slim so you wouldn't need to take it with a drink as it should be swallowed easily. The tablets themselves have no aroma to them whatsoever and have no taste when you swallow them. I have however noticed that a few of the tablets I have gone to use have somehow been crushed and reduced to either broken tablet or just fine powder. I guess given the fact that their packaging isn't particularly protective that this can happen.

The tablets are designed to be taken from 12 years plus and shouldn't be given to anyone younger. The recommended dose is just one tablet per day and this shouldn't be exceeded - I have never taken more than 1 per day although at times I have felt that I have needed it! I generally take the one tablet first thing in the morning as I find that this is the only time I remember especially if they are on my bedside table! I have noticed that they do start to work quite quickly, my eyes don't feel like they want to be ripped from the sockets and my running nose seems to stop which is obviously great as I don't feel particularly wonderful as most hayfever sufferers will sympathise.

I really did have high hopes for this product as it starts off so well helping to relieve the symptoms quite quickly but unfortunately after about 6 hours my symptoms slowly start to rear their ugly heads and I'm finding myself wanting to itch my eyes which have once again turned quite red and I'm back to sneezing. I have always been quite tempted to take another tablet as probably taking say two a day would be far more effective but obviously saying they are 1 a day I have kept to this. Although it gave me a good few hours relief the symptoms were still lingering in the background although quite subtly but overall it just couldn't do the job.

Overall, these were a cheap alternative which do contain an active ingredient called loratadine so I did have high hopes that these would actually work. Unfortunately for me they weren't as strong as I would have liked and the tablet seemed to wear off after around 6 hours and for me that just isn't long enough. Although the plus point is that these don't make you drowsy whatsoever so I guess that's the a good thing about these tablets but as they just don't last I can't rate them highly nor can I actually recommend them to any major hayfever sufferers although they may work for different people but personally they just didn't live up to expectations. I give them 2 stars.
